Unexpected gift, good Samaritan and all lit up

- The unexpected gift of this evergreen scented Christmas candle.  It's sitting on top of my three Christmas themed books.  I love the way the green jewel on its lid evokes the green of the trees outside.

- Driving down a beautiful residential street and spotting two nice sneakers lying on the sidewalk a few feet from each other, as if someone sat them on top of their car and drove off with them still up there.  The next day, the two sneakers have been put together on the sidewalk and neatly left upright.

- Bringing in the timer I bought to see if someone can figure it out for me.  The instructions are either too complicated or my mind just doesn't work like that (it's the latter, really.)  The plant manager walks away with it and comes back five minutes later set all correctly.  Now my front door Christmas wreath with its white lights, will cut on at 5pm and cut off at 11pm.  And I'll get to see it lit up when I drive up in the evening.

It's the little things...and it's Friday!  How I love Friday and the weekend.  I hope yours is wonderful, my friends.

What a great idea having your lights on a timer. I'm always too worried to have them on at all when we are out incase they cause a fire.

Your gift looks beautiful. :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Well I know what you mean about the timers - they are complicated and you are probably missing one tiny step. Nice gifts. sandie

Surprise gifts are great fun- I like the deer on the candle container. i bet somewhere there's a barefoot teen-ager n a parent who is wondering if they have to buy another pair!
Glad your cheery home arrival Gizmo was unpuzzled! (I hate those things- every one is different!)
Have a Fun week-end!

It is a lovely candle box. The cover illustration on the book beneath it looks like it must be a sweet story.

My little bedside clock confounds me every time. Steve has to set it for me with each biannual time change because I just cannot figure it out.

Joe -

It has the added value of keeping the same schedule when I'm out of town, so a potential thief might possibly be thwarted. Although from watching "Home Alone" I remember that didn't thwart those thieves (who turned out to be hapless anyway.) :)

Sandie -

The instructions weren't clear at all - they assume that you know something about timers already, I think.

Mama Zen -

Isn't it beautiful?

Riot Kitty -

You are so good at sending them yourself. Happy weekend!

The Elephant's Child -

Yes - I loved it when she handed me that pretty bag with the candle in it.

Hilary -

It was so awesome when I drove up last evening and it was on.

Cheers!

Snaggle -

I hope the owner of the shoes spotted them.

Leonora -

It's a book by a woman who was a regional writer - she had a column in The Atlanta Constitution for years (used to be the morning paper here) - it's called "Christmas in Georgia" by Celestine Sibley. Sweet stories of Christmas.

The one underneath that is "Kneeling in Bethlehem" by Ann Weems. It's lovely - devotional. And the one underneath that has Christmas poems - it was given to me by a sweet lady as a gift when I left my part-time job at Jenny Craig.

It really IS the little things, I agree! I bought a thing-a-ma jig at a yardsale, kind of a rack (but I didn't hook the lights up on it) that hangs above my counter. With S-hooks on it I have hung maybe about 20 utensils such as graters, wine opener, spatulas, etc, etc. Makes me SO HAPPY!!

I sure hope the owner is reunited with those sneaks!!

And how nice you've got all that natural light coming in your living room to enjoy your new built-ins and candle by! Lovely.

The little things...mean EVERYTHING. I do like the idea of having the lights come on when I get home...but I get home while it's still light out. I just like the idea...and it would work on the weekends when we're away for hockey games (at least two or three weekends until the season ends...Christmas, not hockey...hockey NEVER ends). Sorry, this is like one long run-on comment, it's how my mind is working this evening after studying for next week's Spanish test and upcoming final. :)

I don't know why timers have to be so difficult to program. There are so many good designers out there - can't someone simplify the process?

My front porch light is on a timer that my husband programmed in the summer. It doesn't come on until 7 pm, and now that's way after dark. But I haven't been able to figure out how to change it and he's too busy. I just use the over-ride function.

Lynn! A timer on your lights is such a good idea! Hope you can take a pic of your decorations! :-)

Jannie -

That sounds like an awesome yard sale score and that it makes you happy is even better.

I'm leaving and getting home in the dark during the week, so I enjoy that natural light on the weekends.

Hockey never ends??? You mean there's year around hockey down there? I guess that gives you good family time.

I know you will do well on that exam.

Sparkling Red -

Now that this one is programmed, it's going to stay exactly as is for next year. :)

You know I will.
