Three bananas, a classic and something different

- Coworker John eats a banana every morning at his desk at work and had loaded up for the week, when he was unexpectedly out of work for a few days.  (He is fine, don't worry.)  I took care of his work for him and reminded him that he had bananas (turning more fragrant by the day) and asked if I could take them home to make banana bread.  "Please!" he said.

- And here it is.  I've never made banana bread before, so had to look up recipes.  I settled on this recipe, that called for three bananas.  The rest of the ingredients were already in my pantry.  And it was pretty tasty, especially with a little butter on it (not the fake stuff.)  :)

- Due to a sudden cold snap, there was also the first fire in the fireplace on Saturday morning, while the banana bread was baking.  The best part of the whole thing was how good the house smelled while it was baking.  I don't bake often, but found this was fun and easy.

Way to turn those brown bananas into something delicious! Looks great.

yummmy! I love banana bread and you're right - the fragrance of something delicious baking makes it doubly rewarding, Lynn! :)

My eldest brother has a banana every morning with his breakfast because they are good for him. He hates bananas which says a great deal about his discipline.
Me? I like them firm. Once they have brown spots they are poison.
But yes, baking DOES make the house smell wonderful.

I have never made it either, so you have inspired me!

A toasty fire, banana bread baking in the oven with that aroma wafting through the house, can't think of a better way to start a chilly morning :) Hi Lyn, so nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by my blog.

Yes, it's been very COLD!!! We haven't lit a fire yet, but your fire looks so warm and inviting:~)

Yummy in the tummy is what I say to banana bread. It was nice of you to make it.

Banana bread, banana cakes, banana loaves, banana smoothies...all are just great!

I have at least one banana a day...in the mornings, too.

Sometimes if I have bananas becoming a little over-ripe, I cut them into pieces; freeze the pieces for use later in smoothies. I used to do that when I had my greengrocery/healthfood store so I wouldn't waste them and I'd use the frozen bananas for the smoothies I prepared and sold in my shop.

We ship bananas at work- n I have a bunch of unsaleable, over-ripe ones. I'm planning some muffins with bananas, applesauce, raisins, n a little brown sugar. Goes good with oat flour, but I ran out. Will be my breakfast on the go this week.

There are two different breads I do, one like that from memory, n one with two eggs n 1/2 cup sour milk plus mini choc chips a blogger named Ellen sent me on a card in snail mail.

Baking is how I keep warm in here- Was frozen here. We had snow! (melted)

Enjoy your bread!

Oh yes, do slather on the butter : )
A cozy fire and banana bread baking in the oven- it doesn't get much better than that!

Joanne -

Thank you - my friend Janice said she puts four bananas in order to make it more dense. I kind of liked it this way though.

Talon -

It's like perfume for your home. :)

Elephant's Child -

I like them when they are less ripe in my cereal and such. Hats off to your brother for such discipline.

Riot Kitty -

Yay! Let me know how it turns out.

Hilary -

He is better and back to work this week. Cheers to you!

Denise -

I loved stopping by your lovely blog and will be back. Yes - I love a good fire in the fireplace - we've had a bit of a cold snap the last few days, so it's nice to have it when I get home from work, too.

Sara -

I have a weather app on my phone that tells the temperature and weather for all my family. So I thought about you, too, when I saw that Tally was having weather in the 30s and 40s this past weekend.

Mama Zen -

Me, too!

Naomi -

Thank you for thinking I can do everything - that's wonderful that you think that. I think I'll try making something else this weekend that I've never made before. Hugs!

That is a great idea - I'll try that, cutting the bananas up and freezing them. I have one of those Magic Bullet thingies to make smoothies - I have no excuse not to try that.

Snaggle -

I'm always curious where you work. I'll bet you do bake some good things at home.

This recipe had an option for swirling in melted chocolate chips for a marbled banana bread. Must try. :)

Leonora -

We are fellow slatherers! :)

Being from CT, could you be kind enough to define what exactly passes for a cold snap there in Georgia?

Used to make banana bread all the time for baking contests when I was young. Never ate it though.

Ha! It was in the mid to low 30s, but not quite at the freezing mark. It was actually colder in Atlanta during the weekend than it was in New York City. :)

The best thing about bananas is when they become over ripe and I can bake a batch of banana bread. I have a very popular and easy recipe too. Yours looks very yummy. Not good for a girl at "fat camp". LOL

Mmm, that looks like a cozy fire.

That banana bread looks really tasty. And I love the smell of baking too, not that it happens here often. :D

Oh girrrrlll, a 3-banana bread baking while the fire place is all cozy. Heaven!

I loves my banana bread with lotsa nuts. Walnuts are good. Love the addition of the lo-fat yogurt in this recipe. And because of the way I like my food, I'd use some whole wheat flour, and replace half the sugar with honey, actually cut the sugar down some. And add some whiskey, of course. :) :) :)
