Monticello, new barn and Moby (one more time)

- More from Monticello, Florida, home of my sister and her family and where I spend most holidays. This courthouse is in the center of town and is the focal point of the drive in from the highway. I get a glimpse before turning left and journeying out to the farm.

- Monticello, population 2,572, has an opera house. The building, known as the "Perkins Block" was built in 1890 by a local businessman who created something of a mall, with a general store, a hardware store and farm implement supply store. The second floor contained an opera house, still in use today through the efforts of devoted citizens dedicated to saving the building. They say it has near perfect accoustics.

- Another building eight miles away - the new barn on the farm, known already as "The Man Cave." A good place for farm equipment, but also will house a workshop and my brother-in-law's deer head, which had been banished to the garage before. :)

- My special helper, Moby, accompanies me on my walks on the farm and is a good and friendly poser.

Wait, I can't be first here, am I??? Could this honor really be mine today?!

I've told F. I long for him to have a "man cave", where he can make it as dirty as he likes and I don't have to go in. ;) Your brother-in-law's cave is impressive.

I can't believe that itty-bitty town maintains an opera house. Wonderful! I'm sure the ones keeping it going are dedicated indeed.

Darn it, Jannie beat me as first commenter by two whole minutes. ;)

Holy cow!!! I was, I was.

All beautiful, love the Santa socks on the light posts (noticed upon click-enlarging the first photo.)

The man-cave! Every man needs one of those.

Cheers, my friend!

Jannie Muffin -

You are first. The honor is yours!

Meredith -

I know - a great idea - the man cave.

The opera house is beautiful on the inside - I went to the girls' ballet recitals there.

Apparently when the train was still coming through the town, there was lots more hustle and bustle. The need for an entertainment space declined. I love it that the building wasn't demolished.

Meredith -

But you got to be 2nd and 3rd. :)

Jannie -

Cheers to you, my friend. Yes - Santa socks on light posts - it is quite charming there.

Blue Bunny -

No karrits. No one has a green thumb in that family in particular, but they sure do have a good place for a garden if they ever choose.

Jannie -

Ah - but you were first. :)

Moby is cute :) I love that the small town has it's own opera house :)

Cookie -

Thank you - he is cute. And a great watchdog.

Monticello looks like it's straight out of a John Grisham novel! Well, except for the palm trees, I guess.

The man cave! That's our garage, for sure.

Mama Zen -

That courthouse just had a big renovation and they planted the palm trees - I guess to make it look more interesting. It does seem like something out of Grisham novel.

Riot Kitty -

My sister found a Man Cave sign to hang over the door - it was a Christmas present. :)

I want a man cave! ;)

That is some man cave! I don't think I'll let hubby see or he'll be incredibly jealous as he only has the old garage to kick around in ;)

You can see the good nature of Moby in that panting grin - what a sweetie!

It's wonderful to see old buildings being honored and preserved.

Joe -

I think everyone should have a lair. :)

Talon -

He is a sweetie - and good naturedly follows me around when I am outside.

Thanks for the great building tour!
Perhaps you should consider tour-guiding in your spare time...
Courthouse- Hopefully we never have to pay tickets there. Nice dome.
pera house- A place with good accoustics is difficult to find to gig in!

I love the natural-wood barn, n want one! (But would be an artist cave- no deer head allowed-)

O deer! What happened to my "O"?

Snaggle -

You know - I do kind of enjoy that kind of thing. When I was unemployed a couple of years ago, someone told me that I should give tours of the CNN Center in downtown Atlanta - some people got their start that way. :)

The barn is lovely and it would be a good place for an artist at work. No worries on that dropped "o" - Happy New Year, Snaggle!
