Party, Jimmy Hosta and fireflies

- So nice outside on Saturday morning that I emailed and had coffee on the back porch. There was still a hint of smoke in the air from the new neighbors' grilling party on Friday night. They moved in the weekend before when I was not home and I hadn't met them. So a very earnest young man tapped on my door and invited me to the party - saying it wouldn't go on too late and that they were celebrating his graduation from higher education. I loved this act of courtesy.

- My Hosta (named "Jimmy Hosta" by pal Jannie Funster) has not grown much this year, but it's getting there. I spotted a Cardinal having a drink of water from the run off in the tray under it at one point this weekend.

- I really don't look forward to summer in the south - primarily because of the heat and humidity. But last night there were fireflies within this lush bit of green. A welcome sight.

It's lovely when we can get outside and really appreciate the beauty of the season. Fireflies are so magic - that more than offsets the humidity (well, mostly). Sounds like you have nice new neighbors!

Fireflies!! I saw my first one of the season last night - so fun to watch them turn on and off as they fly around!

Hotlanta can be BRUTAL. Enjoy the last few moments, ... and lightning bugs. :)

Lynn, I like the greenery of the bottom photo. Last night before I dozed off a huge firefly streaked past the top of my bedroom window.

The back porch looks like the perfect place to sit!

We've had so much rain in the last couple of days, but we sure have needed it, but now I want it to go away and see the sun. It rarely gets really really hot in the UK. That's why we bought a place in AZ!

Jimmy Hosta! I love it!

Miami summers are hot too but I do like the sound of the fireflies and tree frogs.

I love the smell of smoke from a bbq. Reminds me of pig roasts in upstate NY when my whole family (and Cuban friends) got together and celebrated BIG! So sweet of your neighbor to invite you to the party. I would've probably popped in for a bit to help him celebrate (and eat what was cooking on the grill). :)

Go, Jimmy Hosta, go! And grow. I know you can can do it. Looks like you're a good half inch taller than when last we saw you.

Hope you have lots of great grills with the new neighbors.

So refreshing to hear of young person letting you know in advance about an upcoming party and what might be happening there.

So is your angel statue crying over the hosta? :)

What wonderful neighbors to inform of the party in advance.

Jimmy Hosta! LOL

Thinking of fireflies fills me with guilt for all the times I pinched off their lights and made jewelry out of them by sticking them around my fingers for rings or wrists for bracelets. Yikes!

Talon -

You were first today! I do have nice new neighbors. And my coworker told me that she had been seeing fireflies for a month, but I just haven't. I guess because I've been traveling so much.

Lance -

They seem like a little bit of magic to me.

happygirl -

Yes - we see steam coming up from the pavement. :)

That's so neat - I love moments like that.

Joe -

When I was in the UK, right around this time in June, everyone kept apologizing for the heat and it was in the 70s. Dream weather! :)

Mama Zen -

Doesn't Jannie have a way with titles? :)

Ileana -

I probably should have gone down - I had worked out and was still so hot from that and was not dressed for a party. Maybe next time.

Tree frogs - my sis in Florida has those around. I love to hear them.

Jannie -

I poured some water on Jimmy Hosta this morning - maybe I need to add some Miracle Gro!

She is priceless. :)

I thought so, too - they have landed in a quiet building, but I am the most immediate neighbor - I loved that courtesy.

Riot Kitty -

Maybe. :)

A good wrap up poem - thank you for it!

Granny Annie -

We used to put them in jars and loved to watch them light up the night after it got dark. I hope we let them out. I just don't remember.

Having a meet neighbors party is a great idea. That doesn't happen here- folks are more stand-offish.
Maybe Jimmy Hosta wants some miracle grow minerals to eat. Fireflies are always fun!
