Back road, good home and order (redux)

It's Random Photo Thursday and this is a post from August 2009 about a peaceful place.

- Taking a seldom used back road, impulsively turning into the driveway of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Monastery. Stepping out of the car - a feeling of peace washes over me.

- As one of the brothers drives out, he patiently waits for the geese to move. He smiles with a twinkle in his eye as he goes by.

- Even the water tower has the mark of the order. They have a working farm, but supplement their income by selling handmade rosaries, fudge and bonsai trees.

Update - I went back by a few months ago to get one of the handmade rosaries. Father Anthony, who makes them, was in the shop and gave it the blessing of St. Benedict. He said the blessing was good for as long as he lives (said as a joke since he is extremely old.) :) The rosary is made with beads called Job's Tears and it is a treasure.

What a beautiful post, Lynn. I never (before) saw a water tower with the cross on it! Thank you for that shot!

Lynn,

What a delightful man Father Anthony sounds like:~) Your story made me smile. This does look like a peaceful place. It would nice to just outside and watch life go by.

Speaking of geese, we have lots in my neighborhood and I always get kick of them when they waddle across the road and stop the traffic:~)

Hope everything is good with you!

Father Anthony has a great sense of humor...love that in a Priest. My grandfather (former Priest) was a joker as well. :)

Beautiful photo, too! A great place for an "artist date." :)

Rosaries, fudge and bonsai trees. A combo that feeds the entire person. :)

Fudge for sale at a monastery! That is amazing.

I think it's cool, too. :)

Granny Annie -

It really is - it is off a remote part of a state highway. It's the long way to my home town and I usually don't go that way, but I did that day.

A great place to visit if you are ever in the area. My eye doctor goes to mass there every morning.

Me, too. Thank you!

I am not Catholic, which rosaries are normally associated with being. But I like to hold it and finger it during prayer and meditation time.

He was (and is) delightful. I'm so glad I could make you smile. It's worth a trip to Rockdale county, Georgia to visit.

Those geese were a little on the obnoxious side, but still cute with their waddling. :)

That's so neat - that your grandfather was a priest with a sense of humor.

And that place is so beautiful and peaceful that I can only imagine what a haven it would be for artists.

I know! Very true.

I hear it's good, too. :)

I'm reminded of how much I miss visiting the monks of Weston Priory in VT. I only seem to see them at family funerals lately. My Uncle, Father John is going on 87 now. They sell music mostly, but have had Ceramics n carvings in the past.

Monks seem to live long lives - it must the the peace and serenity. How lovely that your uncle has lived such a long good life.
