Kids songs, embarrassing the kids and cicadas

- Nancy Cassidy's Kid Songs - I love these CDs. I first gave them to oldest niece Carla when she was wee one and they ended up making their way around to all the kids. So I got them for a coworker who is a mother-to-be and another coworker who is a grandmother-to-be. I told them of my favorite two songs on it, "Shake Your Sillies Out" and "Sandwiches."

- I was having lunch with niece Abby and two of her friends (all adults now) recently and when our sandwiches came out, her friend looked at Abby and said, "Too bad your mom isn't here to sing the sandwich song for us." Not to worry - I sang the first few lines for them:

Sandwiches are beautiful, sandwiches are fine.
I like sandwiches, I eat them all the time;
I eat them for my supper and I eat them for my lunch;
If I had a hundred sandwiches, I'd eat them all at once!

- I read about this in May, when USA Today reported, "An enormous brood of cicadas that covers parts of 16 states is beginning to wake from its 13-year slumber underground." And I just saw my first bewildered cicada this morning as I was out watering plants at 5am. It landed on my back, I shrieked, no neighbors came running - so much for that neighborhood watch thing. :) (The neighbors are sleeping at that time, as they should be.) Anyway - it was funny in retrospect and I wish I could have gotten a picture of the cicada.

Have a lovely weekend, my friends!

Cute song.

Reminds me of the time when a co-worker of mine wanted to hear "Magaritaville" by Jimmy Buffet at afternoon break one day.

I absolutely detest the song, but another co-worker of mine and myself broke out in song and sang a few bars for her.

Made her day and brought a smile to her face.

I'm no Parrothead either, but like you, I know every word to Margaritaville. :)

I'm glad to hear that you are having some fun at work.

Lynn~ I have to laugh about your 'shriek' and no one came running...neighbor comment! I often have things like this happen as we have big toads, big bugs and the like pop out here...I sometimes, in my surprise with something that has buzzed on my head or my ear(or lands on my back; or esp.with a gross, large spider that surprises me for instance) have been known to let out a scream....and I wonder (if the neighbor's can hear me) what they think!

It started out this morning with a big spider that returns every single night and builds a web between by hanging fern and the begonia. I always knock him down and he comes right back. Sigh. Then the cicada landed on my back and was flying around wildly. And then there was one of those huge Palmetto bugs near my front door - OK, I killed that one by throwing the doormat on top of it. And then the cicada landed on my back again. It was a big shriekfest this a.m. But I do think it is interesting that the cicadas only come back every 13 years.

That is awesome that you sang the sandwich song!

As for the cicadas...OMG. They live that long?

Seriously, Lynn. I fully understand the spider thing. I have an old steel broom, and I knock down the 'bulby spiders' that I find hanging on the eves and above doorways and the like. In a few days (or sometimes the next day...)they are BACK. What the heck!!? I drag them out in the lawn and I wipe them off...and they crawl back???? I cannot (even) fathom that!

I seriously get the shrieking. Those things look like they come from outer space. And they're HUGE. I still remember the Shake your Sillies song. :)

I like cicadas - at a distance.

I haven't really seen the cicadas, but I can certainly hear them!

Last summer the cicadas were going insane all summer here. This summer it occurs to me that I haven't heard a single one. I like them. They sound like summer to me.

Love children's songs and the sandwich song made me hungry so I'm having a sandwich.

Free me of cicadas. They are evil.

Those sound like good songs to know- I should get those for the kids. Brave to sing the song in public. That embarrassed them? I bet you have a nice voice to not be embarrassed about!
Those cicadas are a bit freaky to me- their eyes especially- I remember them everywhere a few years ago, n they crawled on me too. my neighbors aren't paying attention when I need a hand either! I would've been a3wake to help-

I sang "Baby, Baby don't get Hooked on Me" at co-workers yesterday...

Have a good week-end singing!

Sounds like a Barney song! :D

Sorry I couldn't get here sooner. Too busy being ill but I'm feeling so much better now. I hope you had a wonderful weekend Lynn.

Yes - I love that I could summon up those song lyrics for those girls. All beloved to me.

Now I'm seeing dead cicadas around - I don't know how to explain it.

What's that about??? I know spiders are God's creatures, too, but I seriously need them to stay away from me.

My sister used the Shake your Sillies out song to get her Sunday School kids to be quiet in church. They sing it just before going in. :)

Usually my time watering the plants that early is so pleasantly peaceful, but the pestilence was visited upon me.

Mama Zen -

They are lovely sounding.

Sounds like summer - I like that.

Evil! I know. :) But not sandwiches, which are beautiful.

Yes - the neighborhood watch failed me. :) I have done a bit of singing this weekend. Not too hot either - the singing or the weather. :)

I'm glad you are feeling a bit better. I missed you.
