- My church used to share its sanctuary with a first generation Slavic congregation who met there in the afternoon; they moved into their own space a couple of years ago. But the first Sunday-before-Thanksgiving they were with us, we walked into the church that morning and found a lovely surprise; a harvest display, much like this one. Since then our chancel guild has kept the tradition alive and the food is donated to a nearby food co-op. It's always a little thrill to see it again each year.
- My big volunteer job within my church will come to an end in December. I ask the woman I took it over from two years ago if she misses it. She smiles and says, "Like my grandmother used to say, sometimes the missing is pleasant."
- There are a few sandwiches left from an evening meeting and I spot two halves of pimento cheese on the tray. I snag them - they are what's for breakfast and will be sizzling on the griddle to make the bread golden brown and the cheese melty. A little indulgence on Thanksgiving week. :)

I like this idea of placing the bounty at the alter. It makes a beautiful autumn display and then it all gets donated!
#3 sounds yummy! I never heard of grilling this. There's always something new to learn : )
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!
I love the harvest bounty and the donation to the food co-op. I long to have a way with words; to be able to say "the missing is pleasant" instead of "yeah." Enjoy your Thanksgiving week.
It is great to see bounty celebrated and shared.
Before now I have not met anyone else who loves pimento cheese. I have never grilled a pimento cheese sandwich but can guarantee you that will be my next experiment.
I'm afraid "A little indulgence on Thanksgiving week" might be a bit of an understatement:)
Beautiful Thanksgiving arrangement and I love your idea about indulging yourself Thanksgiving week (don't just ruin it by only doing so one day). One job almost done... what's next?

The Slavic congregation used to have these beautiful loaves of bread with a wheat pattern on top, too. We miss them, but are happy that they have their own building now.
It was good, but a little rich for breakfast. I'm used to oatmeal or yogurt and granola. :)
Happy Thanksgiving week to you!

It's just another way of thinking, I guess. Happy Thanksgiving week to you!

It's a fun week to overindulge. :) My mama makes the best pimento cheese ever - I miss it. I can't quite duplicate it even though I do it the same way. Let me know if you try this - it was good.

Two years of Clerk of Session - almost done!
I will still be on the Worship committee - I schedule and train liturgists. And I suspect the nominating committee will be calling again next year. :)
That is a regular cornucopia Lynn! What an amazing variety of color also!
I just had a sandwich for breakfast too! Sliced turkey and swiss on a whole wheat
"bolo" bun! Still sippin' my coffee, 16 oz I usually make last for 3 hours!
BEAUTIFUL display. The fall harvest colors are something to give thanks for.
I'm sure you've done a wonderful job in the church, and now get to pass to baton to anotehr who can share their gifts too. Beautiful for everyone!!
xoxo
That's neat that your church continues the tradition!
Love the harvest setting. Beautiful. :)
It's interesting, my partner is an Elder in our church, and I'm sure in 3 years time that quote "the missing is pleasant" will be so true! :D
What a nice tradition. Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes - I snapped that shot in the nick of time, just as the service was starting.

Sometimes a sandwich for breakfast is good, but today is back to yogurt and granola for me. :)
And thank you for your kind words - yes, time to pass the baton.

It was a fabulous idea that originated with wonderful, devout people and I'm glad we continue it, too.

Ah - your partner has the three year term, too. I did the three year term and stayed on for another year to continue my "clerk" job for another year at the pastor's request. I've got a bit of paperwork to do before it's all over, and then I can embrace that pleasant missing thing. :)

Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Yay for indulgence!
I agree about the bounty at the alter. There's something so perfect and it is such a giving of thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving, Lynn. I hope you enjoy a wonderful meal and time with friends and family:~)
The harvest display is a wonderful idea! Fruits and vegetables are so beautiful. I love cooking mostly because of the fun of handling, washing, peeling and chopping a variety of beautiful veggies.
May all the good things be plenty for you this week- great pic-
Sorry you can't get more Slavic white bread, Good luck to your successor!
Free leftovers are always good-
