Magic pie, oh say can you see and Palm Sunday

- When the invitation came to join a potluck dinner on Friday night, it came with a suggestion that I pick up a fruit pie at a bakery since I "work all the way across town."  It was just as easy to make my mom's "Magic Pie".  A cup of self-rising flour, a cup of milk, a cup of sugar, a stick of butter and a large can of peaches.  You preheat the oven to 350, letting the butter melt in a casserole dish within.  Mix the flour, milk and sugar and pour into the middle of the dish, on top of the melted butter.  Pour the drained peaches into the middle of that and let it bake for 45 minutes.  The batter rises to the top.  You may also use fresh fruit.  I added fresh blueberries to the peaches.  And it was a hit, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

- At the end of the evening, the 11-year-old and 8-year-old, the only children in attendance, wanted to sing for us.  They settled on the fireplace hearth side by side.  What would they sing?  The 8-year-old whispered into her older sister's ear (causing a brief eye roll) and then they sang "The Star Spangled Banner."  Beautifully.

- The same two young ladies leading the procession of children up the center aisle of the church on Palm Sunday, waving palm fronds.

Cannot wait to try the magic pie.

Love the older girl "eye-rolling" at the younger's suggestion but doing it anyway. If I could could the times my older sister has rolled her eyes at me. LOL

Claudia -

Let me know if you make it!

Granny Annie -

I look forward to hearing if you like it.

And the older sister sings so beautifully - she's in some sort of singing competition right now. I thought the eye rolling thing was funny, too.

I like easy. :)

Thinking of your flowers today Lynn! I have NOT ventured out as we have 50MPH winds and a blizzard (with 6-8 inches of snow Monday and Tues.) and snowing into Wed.

H-E-L-P!!!!
lg :-) I think the lustre of winter has kind of perhaps...worn off, let's say???????

Thank you for sharing this recipe. A lady at church makes this every time we have a potluck and it's very popular. I never knew how she made it.

I'm not surprised it was a hit it looks delicious! I bet that would taste good with custard too. Now I'm hungry.

It looks magic indeed! Believe it or not, there is a great vegan bakery here (maybe your niece has been) called Sweet Pea bakery. You can't tell the difference.

I know this pie, in several manifestations, as 'impossible pie'. I like your name much better.

Hilary -

The older Star Spangled Banner singer made a palm cross out of her palm on Sunday and gave it to her Sunday School teacher. A wonderful idea. We burn the unused palms and keep the ashes for next year for Ash Wednesday.

Cheers! And I love how you call dessert pudding.

I think I need to send a St. Bernard in with provisions for you. That's awful! But we know it will end soon, right? I hope so. It's cold here, too, but not like that.

Leonora -

Ah - the secret is out!

Joe -

I wouldn't have thought of putting custard in it. Hmmm...

Riot Kitty -

She is gluten free now, so I'm not sure how much she is going to bakeries, but I'll bet that has gluten free options.

Elephant's Child -

Impossible pie is a great name, too. :)

mmm- I'd love the blueberries in there- Thanks for the recipe!
Great such youngsters can handle the Anthem.
I always liked the free palms to wave on Palm Sunday, but always hope I'm not one of the crowd who turns on Jesus... Enjoy your upcoming Easter week!

Magic pie sounds wonderful. I think I may have to make that with some of my frozen peaches. Happy Easter week, my friend. I'm glad they sang our national anthem. It's a hard song to sing. :)

Snaggle -

The sermon included that bit about the people who turned on Jesus - I'd hate to think I would have done that either.

Yum - you have frozen peaches. That would be perfect. And especially for Easter week.

Yes - the Star Spangled Banner is difficult to sing, but they sang it beautifully.
