Unexpected beauty, re-purposed and volunteer

- I already had the dental appointment, which I was alerted to with a postcard in my own handwriting.  It's always a bit disconcerting to see my handwriting in the mailbox.  But I stuck the card in the overstuffed mail catcher on my home office desk because I love those stamps.  Aren't they beautiful?  Click to enlarge.

- You would also have to click to enlarge to see the scribbling on this folder, which began as the folder for my 1996 taxes.  Sometime in the early '90s, I had a boss in my corporate job who asked us to deliver reports and such to him in used folders.  He hated the idea of brand new folders (for some reason.)  I laughed when I was digging in some old papers last weekend and came up with the one pictured.  A lesson learned from him, I guess - re-purposing a folder.  I must have been waiting at my tax appointment, listening to my work voice messages to get visuals to Maria, to see Leeann on Monday and to send (photo) release to Dawn, etc. etc.  A trip down memory lane and I'm keeping this folder, which now holds papers from a church committee I chair.  :)

 - And this is the loading dock at the printing company.  I noticed a lovely little flowering shrub has "volunteered" between the cracks there.  My mother used to call plants that spring up "volunteers."  Nothing at all beautiful about that view, except the shrub that I noticed in passing and, of course, that beautiful blue sky.

Beauty in unexpected places - a favorite good thing.  I hope some of that is in store for you this weekend.  And a special Happy Birthday to Naomi, who is 83 years old today.  Happy Birthday, my friend.

Smiles. Unexpected beauty is always a delight. Though some of those volunteer plants have plans for world domination.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you,my dear, for the Happy Birthday wish----I will be celebrating on Saturday with a little LADIES WHO LUNCH.....

I love 'Volunteers'.....I have a lot of them in my garden---a seed will get blown elsewhere and suddenly, there is a 'volunteer'.....
You know the pictures don't get bigger when I click on them---I don't know why, but I wish they did get bigger.....I couldn't see that folder and I couldn't see the stamps, which looked lovely from afar...!

My mammogram report comes in my own handwriting and I just can't be sure if I can trust myself with such important results:)

It is very difficult for me to start a brand new folder if there is a perfectly good used one around somewhere.

I forgot all about "volunteers" but my mom used to call them that also.

Happy Birthday Naomi!!!!

I like the idea of calling them "volunteers" also! Totally going to use that from now on!

I love a determined volunteer. It is always great to see a little plant dominating over concrete.

I am a big fan of re-using folders. It's amazing how long they can last, although they are "just paper".

Elephant's Child -

Yes - we have kudzu here. Someone brought it from Japan many years ago as a ground cover. It's in that world domination category, I think.

Naomi -

I am looking forward to your post about your birthday lunch. You always have such fun with the ladies when they visit. I hope it was lovely.

I don't know why left clicking on the photos doesn't make them bigger for you. But the stamps are lovely. :)

Hilary -

It's just astounding to see my own handwriting in the mail.

Cheers to you!

Snaggle -

I hope you get some rest soon - happy pre-4th to you!

Granny Annie -

Isn't that a great word for stray plants? Volunteer? Mom used that expression for the wild mint that popped up around their house, and I loved it.

G -

I think so, too.

Joanne -

Thank you - I like that.

Sparkling Red -

This one is a keeper, I think. :)

I see those stamps all the time when I am working, but I never stopped to consider whether they are pretty until just now! (they are.)

It is an odd feeling to see one's own writing on an envelope received by post. Similar has happened to me and I've found myself caught out for a moment and just standing, staring wondering what the hell? lol

There is something very special about "Volunteers" I agree. New little plants growing in urban areas.
