Waiting for visitors, new digs and signs of spring

- A definite sign of spring:  the hummingbird feeder is filled and waiting for visitors.  The nice lady at my local bird feeder store, The Garden Enthusiast, told me another customer reported seeing scouts about already.

- I went there on Saturday to buy yet more Nyjer seed - the finches are going through it like mad, but half of it ends up on the back porch floor.  So I bought this new feeder with smaller holes.  They were hesitant at first, but took to it eventually.  Love that guy waiting his turn at the top.  Click to enlarge.

- And nothing says spring to me like Vidalia onion bulbs.  My late father used to plant these in his backyard garden.  I love putting them in salads and that's where these have gone this week.

There was a lovely spring rain last night.  I ran the plants from the back porch out front, so they could feel the rain and the pollen on their leaves could wash away.  Everybody's happy this morning, including me.  :)

I was an adult before I saw an actual hummingbird in real life. What a magical experience it was! I love those little birds.

I may be too late for putting out a feeder because I'm pretty sure one of their scouts has already been here:-(

Wonderful photo of the finches! I'm looking forward to warmer weather (believe it or not, it gets cooler in Tampa than Miami)! Enjoy Spring!

I haven't seen hummingbirds yet. Lots of doves and robins, though!

Our birds are messy too. And incontinent.

Lovely set up with your feeders, Lynn! Hummingbirds....they are just a 'dream' yet here...My husband asked yesterday "Well, what do you think MAKES the hummingbirds come (all the way up here) from Mexico??! Why don't they just stay...where they are?" :-)

Here the owner is only putting out sunflower seeds, n the finches like millet much better. The suet cakes are still attracting some tho. We have to sit outside to see hummingbirds - I'm sure they will fit you into their daily schedule.

Happy Spring!

Your green garden is looking lovely and inviting. As usual, Toronto is way behind you (no leaves on the trees yet) but we'll get there!
