A flower a day, moving Southern and awake

Photograph by Rhett Amick. Used with permission.

- This phenomenal photograph by local artist Rhett Amick, from his "A Flower a Day" website found here. He was at the intersection of Highway 80 and Springridge Road in Clinton, Mississippi, looking out over Mississippi College. His daily "flower a day" emails are a daily gift.

- Another daily gift - the travelogue emails from friends Bonnie and Joe. They are currently in Europe, taking trains all over and having to constantly rush for them. Bonnie says of Joe, "He does not move fast, he moves Southern."

- A returning gift. Caffeine. I decided to stay off caffeine after taking a short break from it, but I ordered a diet Coke on Saturday during a road trip. (It was a part of one of those value meals.) Driving down the road sipping it, I was thinking suddenly how good I felt. So now I'm thinking a little diet Coke now and then couldn't hurt. :)

That is a gorgeous photo. What a talented photographer!

lol @ the "moves Southern"

I think you're right -- it's TOO much of a good thing that hurts us :)

I've seen some blue, green, gray and red sky and white, gray, red, black, green, clouds. But this is the first time I can remember seeing brown clouds. I've seen dry rain here in Oklahoma and rings around the sun and moon but no brown clouds.

It was nothing but black clouds here this morning. Lots of rain.

A little of what we like does us no harm at all. :)

Love the photo. :)

Ahh, what a sweet post. I do agree on a soda once in a while to give a nice warm cozy feeling. I get that feeling over my occasional fry, burger and shake from P. Terry's. Or Hut's burgers. So good!

Yes, that is one amazing sky shot. Nature provides untold beauty for our pleasure.

And OMG -- my one trip to Europe, which I had pretty-much mapped out my whole train voyage prior to flying over, to spend specific days with each of my 11 penpals... quite a few times I came within 10 seconds of not making trains -- oy!

xoxo

He is so talented - I love getting his daily photo in email and there is always a quote along with it.

I've enjoyed the heck out of Bonnie's emails - they are in some remote Italian village today. A place they looked up because of her ancestry.

Mama Zen -

Yes - why am I denying myself?

Riot Kitty -

We take things a bit more slowly here in the south. :) When I had that diet Coke, I was think that this is the sensation my brain has been missing. :)

Ellis -

I think Rhett used some method to colorize his photos and that's why they are brown. I hope your storm wasn't too bad.

Joe -

I believe you are right. :) Isn't the photo wonderful? I love his work.

Jannie -

Bonnie said they were OK in France and Switzerland, but in Italy nothing was in English and no one around seemed to speak English. Probably due to the remoteness of the area they are visiting - they don't expect tourists.

Fireblossom -

My tongue is duly bitten, my friend! :)

I move Southern, too, I think. F.'s region of Romania (which we call Transylvania) is renowned for moving ultra-slowly and taking their time. It really shouldn't surprise either of us when we are late to everything. ;)

I quit coffee when I dropped the cigarettes last August. One addiction was too much of a reminder of the other. And yet today I had a lovely caramel machiatto at Starbucks, just for a birthday treat, and I too felt fantastic and revived for a bit. Surely an occasional caffeine lift is fine.

That said, I understand the caffeine in a cup of coffee is about *six times* that of a regular bottle of soda -- so your diet coke should definitely be all right!

Oh. And I meant to add, what an amazing photograph! I'll definitely check out that site. :)

Coming back from no caffeine always gives us a nice lift...but I wouldn't know that feeling anymore. I haven't gone a day without espresso in years!

PS - I love that quote from Bonnie. :)

Oh I definitely move southern. I have a type southern personality. :) That is neat that you and F. ended up together and that he moves slowly, too. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm sure if presented with a caffeinated Cafe Latte, I'll drink it. All things in moderation, it seems.

It's your birthday? Happy birthday, my friend and I hope it was an enchanted day. xo

Oh how I love espresso - but mixed up with steamed skim milk. I adore the feeling you get from a caffeine buzz and wonder how I went so long without it. :)

Bonnie is so great - I look forward to her emails so much.

How did he get that amazing photo?! Gorgeous!

I used to drink Coke all the time when I was a kid, but now I don't drink soda anymore. It's always a shock to my system when I do. :-)

When I left home the first time, I went crazy drinking cokes and got the weight gain to show for it. I don't even like regular coke now - but I do love diet coke. Not every day, but once in a while is OK, I think.

oooo great cloud pic- Looks like a PhotoShop filter.
Thanks for the site referral. Europe by train sounds great! (bet they miss alot of trains)
Caffeinne really works when you only have it once in awhile-
I keep my dose low or get withdrawal headaches now- Hope you don't!

You know - my sister reported monstrous headaches when she got off caffeine, but I really didn't.
