The lawns, long lunch and freedom

- The lawns of Georgia College and State University taken just after graduation day in May. Yesterday I made a quick trip to Milledgeville, Georgia for more legal business and did not even have time to take photos. But this lawn in front of Atkinson Hall was green and lush. A professor was holding class outside on the lawn, reminding me of the times I got to do that when I was a student there.

- Southern life: rushing to get to the attorneys' office because they close for lunch between 12:30pm and 3:00pm.

- Much later in the day, running into heavy rain on the expressway and slowly making my way to my office in northwest Atlanta. After calling in, it is suggested that I can always check emails from home. Yes, I could. I turn onto Freedom Parkway and make my way there - it is lovely to be home two hours earlier than usual.

Have a great weekend, friends!

Oh, you just hit my nostalgia button with "Freedom Parkway," Lynn. My first place after I returned to Georgia as an adult was in the Virginia Highlands. Good memories. :)

I had to laugh at the Southern lunch hours. My doctor here keeps a similar schedule -- although the secretary's office does open back up for calls starting at 1:30. ;)

Class outside is the best kind!

A lawn, some grass
a bunch of smart sass?

:)

Freedom Highway has always been my favorite route to follow.

And I bet you were the cutest student graceing the lawn of an al fresco class.

with love and hugs,

A two and a half lunch? That takes leisurely to a whole new level ;) I've obviously been working in the wrong offices!

Ellis - I thought learning made you "head" smart? LOL!

Have a beautiful weekend, Lynn!

Smart lasses? Hehe. I know what you mean. Love the poem. :)

They invited me to go along on this long lunch, but I had to wistfully decline.

It was a lot of driving. I ended up eating a fast food sandwich on the road.

It is right on my way home - I in DeKalb County.

Oh I was so mortified that I got there right at 12:30p - had to make a quick stop at the safe deposit box first for a document. They were very nice about it, but clearing chomping at the bit to go to lunch. The men finally left the paralegal (who is my mom's friend and the attorneys' wife and mother respectively) and me.

I hope you have a great weekend. My favorite thing about North Carolina - probably the river that runs by my sister's house. And it is blessedly cool there. I guess that is two things. :)

Jannie -

Ha! A great one, too. Sass. And thank you for the compliment! xo

You have a beautiful weekend, too. Yes - I get a little nostalgic for small town living sometimes. I remember how my dad used to come home for lunch in the summer when we were kids - we all looked forward to it.

Sorry i didn't get here earlier to wish you a good weekend, but things have been crazy here.

Nice to hear we aren't the only ones having rain!

Yesterday this page wouldn't open for me-
Lucky you getting outdoor classes! That never happened to me in 5 years of coolege=
We should all have 2.5 hours for lunch n a nap, but I only get a half -hour n sometimes none! I don't even get to sit for 10 minutes...
Looks like Freedom Parkway led to free time for you. Glad you got home okay in those bad conditions-
Adding to the week-end is always good- unless you're working!

Lecture on the lawn, well, that must be fun. I would imagine birds sitting in attendence as well, and how much fun would that be.

Joe -

We've been having torrential downpours in the late afternoon - almost every day. And just at rush hour.

I am getting an error message when trying to access your blog - I see from my reader that you have a new post. The error message is bX-voun1i. (Hope you see this.)

Sometimes I wish I had a job in which I could stand up more. You must be exhausted when you get home.

I have a clear memory of my English lit class studying ee cummings's poem "jabberwocky." My favorite lines "Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"

I can't imagine taking classes outside on the lawn. How cool is that??

There's nothing like being home when it's pouring. Hope the rest of your weekend was sunny! :)

Don't ever remember doing a class outdoors in college (except for one night in astronomy and a dig site in archeology)... But I do remember one philosophy professor who'd was a favorite for this night classes--with the class continuing with an optional session at a bar off campus.

Lunch from 12:30 - 3pm?! I'm jealous!
Getting home early is nice... rain is not so nice.

Same here! And I always think we should have that siesta time like they have in Italy.

Ily -

Back then the classes were small and we could just sit the grass in a circle. It was lovely.

I don't mind the rain so much, but just wish it would rain before or after rush hour. :)

Sage -

lol - I'll bet that was a popular class!

Cookie -

I know - me, too.
