Dogwood, in the clouds and urban cowboy

- The first blooming dogwood tree spotted this season.  Taken from a parking deck overlooking Crescent Avenue in Atlanta, just a few steps away from the spot in which Margaret Mitchell wrote "Gone with the Wind."

- A slightly drippy, overcast morning, just begging for a stop at Starbucks for the luxury of a steaming latte for the trip back to work.

- And after work, an astounding sight on Howell Mill Road, on a busy section of street full of car repair shops near the Atlanta Water Works, a man dressed all in black, complete with black cowboy hat, riding a black horse.

I love the dogwood, and am fascinated with the man in black. I will be inventing stories about him for days.
Thanks.

The Elephant's Child -

After I got to work this morning, I googled "man on horse on Howell Mill Road Atlanta" and found an article about him! Here's the link: http://www.ajc.com/lifestyle/new-goal-dj-turns-1322613.html

He's a former DJ and has come to love horses, he has several now and takes them to festivals and such. The horse he was on yesterday differed from the horse pictured in the photo in the article. Quite a story and I'm glad I got to see them!

Gorgeous shots, Lynn! I love the fog-enveloped building and I can't wait to see some blossoms here, but it will be a month or more. So thank you for a sneak preview! :)

That is so neat about the man in black on the black horse...that would have freaked me out as some sort of doom messenger - lol!

WOW! Wonder who the horse guy was. What a sighting. Very romantic, I think. Oh cool -- I see you leave a link in your comment to Elephants Child. I'll be for sure checking that out after I post this.

Wonder why they call it dog wood? Is there a catwood? :)

Things just started blooming. I noticed that after I started sneezing. But then, it snowed yesterday, so I want more blooms!

Frankly Scarlet, what a cool piece of location trivia!
Nice fog over the building shot- We had fog yesterday here.
Sounds like a cool cowboy to behold! I know I would rather ride a horse these days myself- I see the like above in the comments- off I go, thanks

Thank you - that is the back of the Four Seasons Hotel. And I love little pockets of beauty like the blooming dogwood.

I know! I thought of that - he did look a little doom like in his dress, but had a nice expression on his face. :)

Jannie -

I think dogwoods have a long and storied history. I haven't heard of a catwood. lol. :)

G -

You have some flowers on the way - I feel it.

FB -

I'll say, I think.

Riot Kitty -

Still snowing? We had a freak snowstorm once in March, too. But we are hitting a record high of 83 today. Sigh. Already.

Snaggle -

Yes - Mrs. Mitchell's home - an apartment building she called "the dump" used to be stand on the spot the parking garage is on. They moved it to Peachtree Street and have refurbished it for tours and visitors.

Hope you have a great day!

Must have been the "ghost" of Johnny Cash...My son, age 21 now, went through a LONG LONG phase, if you will, of wearing only black. Black tee-shirt, black socks, black leather jacket and jeans. Black ball cap (if he wore one.) At least it was easy to sort his clothes!!!!

Looking forward to your pics of MORE signs of spring in "Hotlanta!!"

Dogwoods scream spring to me. And the dark horseman... haunting. I agree with Fireblossom, much better than the pale horseman. :)

Betty -

I'm so pleased that you are checking out the link. The urban cowboy sounds delightful.

Mama Zen -

Me too. :)

That's so interesting - I'm glad you let him be who he wanted to be at that time.

And check out tomorrow's post for more signs of spring. :)

happygirl -

Haunting, but it turns out he is a DJ turned horse lover, who loves to share his horses at church fairs, etc.

I love that second shot, it's amazing! Sorry I wasn't here earlier this week, real life has been crazy.

Only in Atlanta would you find a man on a horse. It reminds me of that Robert Redford movie, Electric Cowboy.

The dogwoods in my town are at their height of bloom. It's stunning sometimes to see the white, especially against a blue sky.

I also like the picture of the building in the gloom. It's spooky, but cool.
