- A sparkling sunny morning. The trees out back look refreshed from their long winter's nap. Later in the day, I walked through the paths of friend Alice's garden and told her of the calla lily that someone gave mom the week she passed away. The bulb (or rhizome) needs planting and I feel responsible for it, but don't have a good spot for calla lilies. She tells me to bring it to her and she'll find a spot.
- This recipe came from Simply Recipes - a wonderful blog of family recipes they share so you can make them your own. It started with making Colcannon (mashed potatoes with kale) on Saturday - delicious with a couple of sausages and then these Colcannon Cakes on Sunday morning. - Checking in on the robin I wrote about on Friday, it seems as if she has found a way to have her nest in that spot. It looks a bit precarious to me, but I admire that kind of perseverance.

I knew she would do it. But it is strange that she was determined on such a strange location. Precarious indeed.
Colcannon sounds so much like the Dutch dish Stamppot. The dutch love to mash their food together. :) Enjoy that robin. She may be back next year. They like to do that.

Alice definitely has a green thumb, so I know it'll be in good hands.
But kale is so good for you! :)
I had my zoom setting on and realized after I downloaded the photo that it looks as if my neighbor might have put something there to bolster the nest - like a folded towel or a pot holder. She's out of town, but I'll ask her when she gets back.

Wow, those cakes look like they'd make a fine breakfast (with sausage patties). I'll have to come back for the recipe...because the kids and hubby LOVE a good morning meal on the weekends.

Yes - but sadly one of the eggs rolled out. My neighbor and I had a discussion about making a robin nest box in that spot for next time.

Kale seems like the in food right now, but I've always liked it. I have an abundance of it in my fridge and need to figure out some more recipes for it fast. :)

That's nice of your friend. You can go and visit the lily plant. You are right about planting them in the right place.
Birds are funny, aren't they. We have house sparrows and they make their nest in oddest places. It cracks me up. Our blue birds are nesting now.
I'm with Granny Annie...I don't like kale, but the fried cakes looked good anyway.
