Pink dogwood, comforting treat and Miss Joyce

- Passing this street, I catch sight of this beautiful pink dogwood tree.  The dogwoods are abundant right now, but the slightly more rare pink dogwood never fails to catch my breath.

- A little spring bug got me yesterday, so I somehow felt entitled to a little ice cream to make my stomach feel better.  (That's my excuse anyway).  This one, Blue Bell Neopolitan, caught my eye.  Dutch chocolate, strawberry with real berries and vanilla.  Yum.

- My mother's best friend tells me on the phone that she and the other ladies still go to lunch together every Wednesday and they never fail to talk about my mother and how much they miss her at lunch.

Aww your mother's best friend sounds lovely!

I'm not a fan of ice cream, but I have to admit that looks good!!

Joe -

She is lovely. She is 83 years old and still works with her 89 year old husband in his law office every day. She is handling the filing of the will probate papers for me. I love talking to her.

That ice cream was delectable.

Yes, your mother was a very special lady. You always made me smile with tales of her sense of humor and sweetness, which she passed down to you for sure.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for ice cream, sometimes not. These days it's glazed donuts. :)

Have a happy pink and pretty dogwooded day.

AHHHH...the last one made me sigh. That's nice of your mother's friends!!!

Yummy ice cream. My favorite is what I always called a "dipsy doodle," which is a soft vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate. I love them! Their not as healthy as your ice cream, but they are my favorites.

We don't have pink dogwood trees. At least I don't think so, but the white ones have been lovely. I like seeing them in the woods; a touch of Spring snow again the bright green.

Joanne -

I was very touched by that - and that is very true.

Sandie -

Yes - two sweet things!

Shionge -

I hope you did!

Jannie -

I definitely learned a lot from my mom.

I know you sing for donuts sometimes. I'd sing for Krispy Kremes any day!

xoxo

Betty -

I'm so glad your sister is better. And it's good to see you - I've missed you.

I think they have a cone like that at the Dairy Queen. Hmmm....

Yes - it's lovely to see dogwoods in the woods. I love the white ones, too.

And those ladies are lunching as we speak, I think. I know my mom is with them in spirit.

Great shot of the pink dogwood. They are spectacular. I'm so glad your mom is being remembered and honored, and they tell you about it. Those a dear friends. Ice cream. Now this is all I can think about.

I love the trees in bloom, now. I wish they could 'stay' all year! Just think what that would look like! That ice cream looked good, Lynn!

That sounds so cool about your mother's friends.

For the longest time, the members of my late father's railroad club would make sure that she was kept abreast of all the happenings of the club via the newsletter they'd mailed to her every month.

inspiring how those friends stick together!!
ice cream is definitely my weakness!!
happy spring!

Blue Bell! Oooooooooh, I am SO jealous. That was the best thing about living in Texas. I can't get it at the stores here.

Sorry - I know you are doing that juice thing and good for you. I admire that.

I guess it wouldn't be as special if they were in bloom all the time. I am going to my hometown on Tuesday for a will probate appointment and should be able to get some shots of the dogwoods in bloom around those beautiful homes downtown.

John -

Both definitely!

G -

That's nice that they did that for your mother.

momto8 -

I think so, too. And yes, that was a rare treat for me. It's a weakness for me, too.

Riot Kitty -

Yes - Blue Bell ice cream is very southern. I wonder why they don't branch out?

It is always a sign of Easter for the dogwoods to be in bloom. Do you know the story of the dogwood?

We let the grandkids have strawberry ice cream for breakfast around here and call it milk and fruit. If they have a cookie with it, we just tell the parents they had cereal:)

I cannot remember my mother ever having a best friend. My dad and her kids, her parents and her aging aunts and uncles were her focus. She was too busy being a caregiver to everyone to have time for a friend. You are so fortunate to have your mother's friend be in touch with you and share memories.

Granny Annie -

I do know the story of the Dogwood and always think of that at Easter.

How cute is that? You two are fun grandparents. I can remember buying my nieces banana splits once at 10am when they were bored. It was our secret.

I told Miss Joyce on the phone that having lunch with her was the only thing she ever did apart from dad. The two of them were kind of joined at the hip. I was always glad mom had her and the other lunch ladies on Wednesdays.

Beautiful dogwood...but I will have to search for the story of the dogwood at Easter time. Remember, even though I lived in NY from the age of 2 - 20 and been in Miami (which is not like being in America, really), I didn't grow up with all the traditions (no Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy ever visited me).

Sweet that your mom's best friend still mentions her name and misses her. It says a lot about your mother.

That pink dogwood sure looks beautiful in the sun how you captured it! The last Neopolitan food I had were some Eggs on sale after last Easter! That Strawberry sounds good- a treat is good after a bad belly day-
It's good your Mom's friends carry on by remembering her at their lunches. I haven't seen any of my Mother's friends in a long time- Good of you to stay ib touch.

Scarlet -

It's all over the internet - a beautiful legend.

Yes - my mother lives on in so many ways.

Snaggle -

That ice cream did make my belly feel better. And the tree showed up on the way home with it.

Hope you have a great weekend, Snaggle!
