Henderson Park, Lake Erin and suburbia

- Looking for an alternative place to walk last Saturday, I wound up at Henderson Park - near my neighborhood.  I had read there were walking trails, but was not expecting the total woodsy isolation of these trails.  Beautiful, but oh so quiet.  Imagine my surprise when I finally emerged out of those woods and came upon...

...this beautiful lake.  I found out later it's called Lake Erin (probably after a developer's wife or daughter.)   About halfway around that lake, I was plunged into woods again.

- Sigh.  I thought I'd never make it back to the soccer field parking lot where I left my car.  :)  I followed the general direction of the curve of the lake, which I could see glimpses of here and there.  But after about a mile through the woods, I saw a clearing up ahead and was suddenly standing on a neighborhood street, surrounded by brick houses.  My car ended up being about 1.5 miles from there.  So my afternoon walk turned into a hike, but there was so much beauty in that hour, that seemed like two.  And due to the isolation, probably the one and only time for that adventure.*

* Someone is likely to tell me that I shouldn't be walking in the woods by myself like that and I agree!  :)  Back to paved sidewalk walks on the weekends.

It does indeed look beautiful though. That lake took my breath away even from here. Thank you.

I got very tired walking with you as you described the length of the journey. I would not have survived so I truly admire your stamina.

I would be that someone! And I hope you didn't have your headphones on listening to music because that's even more dangerous!

Glad you are safe and sound and had fun. :)

Cloudia -

Maybe for just that one day. :)

Hilary -

Ah - I would have enjoyed having you with me!

The Elephant's Child -

That lake was totally unexpected - it took my breath away, too. Thank you for saying so.

Granny Annie -

I know - I'm tired thinking about it. I was dripping with perspiration when I got back to my car.

Joe -

Yes - I did have on music at first, but thought better of it and turned it off. I was glad I had my phone with me, too, for safety as well as to snap those pictures.

Thank you - a bit of an adventure, it was. And thanks for being concerned.

I love trails like that, and used to hike them a lot when I was younger. These days, i would probably get spooked, alone, as you say.

I'm glad you found your way out of the woods. :)
You are my second blogging adventurer. The lake is beautiful. I would like to start hiking again, but then I remember my desert experience and flip the channel. :)

Lovely photographs. Good thing it was a beautiful day and not raining - just think of the calories you burned!

The lake is beautiful! The other pics remind me of every Friday the 13th movie I've ever seen...and I hate that such beauty and peacefulness would stress me out. I can see how it'd be quite an adventure. Wish I had the guts to enjoy something like this, chica, and I'm glad you're not like me in that aspect.

I thought you were going to say:
~ About halfway around that lake, I was plunged into...the lake!!!!

Looks like a great place for a hike (and an adventure)!!!

On one of my first dates with my ex-fiance, we went for a hell of a long hike. I thought he was just really athletic but he admitted to me later that he had gotten lost!

Maybe it's time for you to sign up for the Survivor show! (j/k)

Actually I love isolation from civilization like that, but am used to it. So hard to find in Eastern MA. Probably much safer with a buddy n cell signal available tho-

Did you have to go all the same way back to find the car, or did you take roads?

Beautiful shot of that lake Lynn! We are experiencing heavenly temperatures here in the High Country! I am glad that you finally found your way back! The lake didn't look big but it probably was a long walk!

It looks like a beautiful place, but you are right - don't walk alone!!

Yes, we do have a DSW here and that is the first place I went. They didn't have my size in any shoes I wanted.

Being alone is sometimes therapeutic... and we discover a pleasant surprise like the gorgeous lake!

Thank you for sharing this adventure with us, Ms Lynn :)

I kept thinking there was something behind me - just a little spooked.

I did encounter a nice family around the lake though.

happygirl -

I remember that desert experience of yours - something I won't be doing either.

Susan -

I know! I thought of that.

Scarlet -

I've never seen the Friday the 13th movies, but I can only imagine them showing a woman alone on an isolated woodsy path...

Lance -

An adventure for sure. :)

Riot Kitty -

I'd have probably covered that up, too. :)

Snaggle -

I'm way to wimpy to be on Survivor - which I love to watch, BTW.

I just started walking to the right on that neighborhood road and eventually ended up on the main road that the park is off of. Then the hike up to my car that was on the second tier up parking lot.

lg -

All in all - I was gone from my car for an hour, but it felt like two. :)

Sandie -

Some, but I do my share of sitting on the couch, too. Not this week though - so busy.

Judy -

So beautiful. And I hope you find your shoes!

Farida -

Absolutely. :)

Well, once in a while you gotta brave the not-so-beaten path, but I know what you mean about personal safety, it's for sure in the back of our minds.

Hope you had a nice hearty meal with double dessert after that hike -- you earned it!!

Beautiful looking place.
