Breakfast, on living alone and technology

- My niece Becky used to call breakfast "beffest" when she was a toddler.  Somehow I still think of a bowl of breakfast like this as beffest.  Organic peaches from the grocery store (very sweet), Kashi Go Lean Crisp Toasted Berry Crumble cereal and Stonyfield French Vanilla yogurt.  My standard breakfast (fruit, cereal, yogurt) and I never get tired of it.

- A sweet memory:  when my niece Amanda was about four years old, she was "helping" me make the guest room bed on Mothers Day morning at my parents' home.  We talked about how much her mom liked her present that morning.  She asked me "who is your mother?"  I replied, "Nana."  She thought about that for a moment and said, "But you don't live here."  I said that was true, that I have my own home.  Incredulous reply: "You live by yourself???"  With a look of true concern, she said, "Ohhh, you don't have anyone to pour your breakfast for you!"

- Amanda's mom is reveling in her new role as grandmother.  She's burning up the miles driving to Pensacola to see young Monroe, a month old tomorrow.  She said she got some FaceTime with him via the iPhone app yesterday "and he smiled big when I started talking to him."

Becky (now called Rebecca) runs her own preschool in Portland, Oregon.  Amanda is the office manager of a huge plantation in the county she grew up in in northern Florida.  I'm so proud of all of them:  four nieces, one nephew, and now one great niece and one great nephew.  All delightful.

Your family is growing! In hindsight, it happens fast doesn't it? I like hearing the anecdotes of when they were young followed by what they do now.

That breakfast looks good... Cute story. I was just home with my parents. My nephew brought his girlfriend over and announced they're getting married...

I contrasted your breakfast and my breakfast of kale juice, and I was left lacking. Your family sounds wonderful. Strong women make me proud to be a woman.

I think that beffest looks a bit too healthy for me!

You sound like you have a lovely family.

Beffest looks pretty good from here - as I have an apple and a cup of tea for mine. Lovely family ties - magic.

I must be hungry that breakfast looks delish.

And yes - we all keep rolling along don't we?

Nom! I love that line about no one to pour breakfast for you.

Isn't it weird how we want our lunch and dinner to vary daily but the same breakast...oops "beffest"...day after day is totally acceptable. Oh yes, I could enjoy your morning choice.

It would just be a guess, but I would imagine that those nieces and nephews have lots to say about their wonderful Aunt Lynn. Methinks you might do some spoilin'.

Leonora -

We are growing. It seems like yesterday that I held Abby (Monroe's mother) on my shoulder as a newborn. I am so proud of all of them.

Sage -

It's for breakfast again today. :) How nice - an engagement.

happygirl -

I come from a long line of strong women. I'm proud to be a woman, too.

Me, too.

Love that beffest! And I am definitely feeling my age these days, but it's all good.

The Elephant's Child -

They are magical.

Riot Kitty -

Nom is right! And she was at that age where she was putting together relationships and just couldn't understand how I lived by myself. :)

Granny Annie -

That's my Monday - Friday breakfast - fruit, cereal, yogurt. On Saturday and Sunday I branch out and have poached eggs and English muffins. :)

Thank you for saying that I am wonderful - I hope they think that. I have done some spoiling over the years for sure.

The rest of them: Carla lives in Washington, DC and is the mother of my great niece Mina. Carla is a historian, and until recently was employed by the national trust. Her husband's job as a diplomat in the Turkish government keeps them traveling, so she's not working right now. Doug lives in the DC suburbs and works at Home Depot. One of my friends said I don't mention him much, but he is delightful - just difficult to catch up with since he's a single guy in his 20s. :) Abby is on maternity leave with young Monroe, but will return to her job as a development officer at her bank in Florida after 12 weeks of maternity leave.

I love yogurt n fresh fruit too, before going to bed. I have a freezing problem now with the frig tho- want live culture, not frozen crystals! Like to do strawberry shortcake with yogurt n just a little squirt of whipped cream. No crunchy stuff for me-
Cute conversation with grown niece to remember from so long ago.
I can attest grandparent role feels wonderful! So much easier. N fun! Of course, Great Aunty is also a blast-
