A heart full of grace, Falcon fever and fortune

 Photo from March 2011

- "You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love..." From the I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., August 28, 1963.  The sign borders the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, just next to Freedom Parkway. Even though I don't get this holiday off, I still celebrate the day.

- The Atlanta Falcons lost the NFC championship yesterday, but it was still fun seeing Falcon fever sweep the city.  The grocery store was full of people in Falcon jerseys buying game snacks.  After the game, someone posts on facebook:  "Well Atlanta, at least we still have Downton Abbey to look forward to."

- Fortune cookie fortune:  Now is a good time for serenity:  a book and a good friend.

One of the greatest speeches of all time. Enjoy your day despite the work!
You have trees in flower down there! Is that a Redbud I see? Beautiful.

Leonora -

Yes - it was a speech about peace. It should be a quiet day - there was very little traffic.

I actually resurrected a photo from March 2011, taken out of the car window while sitting in traffic.

From a great man to steadfast sports fans but no Downton Abbey for me to look forward to because I have finished Season 3 already. Regardless a good post as always.

Plus on my post I loved your comment about recent college years of happiness:)

Sad about those Falcons - maybe next year.

Granny Annie -

How did you already see all of Season 3? Do you have it on DVD? I anxiously await each episode and record it on Sunday night to watch on Monday night.

Thank you - I so loved those years.

Sandie -

I know! I can't believe they lost.

I like that fortune.

I don't follow football at all, but am sorry to hear that your Falcons lost. How long until baseball? :-)

Hi Lynn .. oh no - did they lose ... I have no idea about the Game - but I know Lenny will be upset!!!

Great quote from King's I have a Dream speech ... great words aren't they: you only need a heart full of grace, and a soul generated by love ...."

Thanks for setting that sentence down for us ... cheers Hilary

"Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality. This Hindu-Muslim-Christian-Jewish-Buddhist belief about ultimate reality is beautifully summed up in the first epistle of Saint John: "Let us love one another, for love is God. And every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love." "If we love one another, God dwelleth in us and his love is perfected in us." Let us hope that this spirit will become the order of the day." From his speech against the Viet Nam war. Will this kind of love ever exist on this Earth?

I have to work today, too.

I wish people thought about MLK's message every day.

He's right. And we all already come equipped that way, tho some show their hearts and grace more than others. :) You show TONS and tons of both, my dear.

Did I mention I finally went to my first football game a couple months ago. The first ever in my LIFE! They have a special place in the stadium the Middle Schoolers can watch the high school games from. And well... I have a Middle Schooler now. :) Quite an impressive live event.

Hopefully this evening you are enjoying that serenity and book, my friend. I know what an avid reader you are.

First time hearing of Downtown Abbey. 'bout the only shows I watch these days are Pawn Stars, The Property Brothers and Barter Kings.

Thanks for blogging on a Holiday, even if you did not get the day off. We appreciate you, Miss Keen One!!!

Too bad the Falcons lost out- So did the Patriots! I know how you feel- it's just alot more fun to win...
That's a good cookie fortune to apply for sure! Still waiting for rest here-
I put up a link to a good post Ellen in Atlanta did on MLK back in '07 on ESR.
Hope your Day was good n full of multi-racial folks being treated well!

I just jumped on the Falcons bandwagon at the 11th hour and didn't actually watch the whole game. :)

Baseball...now there's a sport.

Hilary -

You're welcome and thanks, as always, for coming by.

Cheers!

happygirl -

Lovely. And yes, it's there if you look for it.

Riot Kitty -

Me, too, my friend.

Jannie -

Thank you for saying that! And no, I didn't hear about that first football game until now. It's fun to go to them sometimes - sounds as if you had a good time!

xoxo

Yes - I was just over at your blog. Sorry for the delay - I ended up having a busy day yesterday.

Hope your day was good, too!

LYNN! Did you know that June from "Honey Boo Boo" goes shopping at the Piggly Wiggly in...Milledgeville, Ga???!
(Is that the same one you were raised in??!)

If so~~you might bump into her and Honey Boo Boo!
lg! (I heart Alana!!)
:-)

Yes - I know that Piggly Wiggly that she is going to. I don't watch that show, but our real estate broker in Milledgeville told me that she was renting a house to Honey Boo Boo and her family. Sadly - I don't have occasion to go back to Milledgeville since the house sold and all the business has been taken care of now, so I am not likely to see them. :)

A book and a good friend sounds wonderful...but the good friend will have to wait (I still have a nasty cough and a low fever).

That quote from MLK's speech is a goodie, especially the "soul generated by love" part. I'm all for that!

My hubby's bummed that the Patriots are not going to the Super Bowl, but the best team must win, eh? Sad but that's the way it goes.

I hope you feel better today. Hey - you can still have the book (in between all the taxi service and soup making.) :)

Wish we'd had a day off! I love the sign and the speech of course.

For me serenity would be a good cd and no friend! :D

Loved the cookie quote and promise!

I just started watching Downton Abbey. This is embarrassing, but I always thought it was Downtown Abbey. Don't ask me why. I've now watched the first season and have ordered the second on.

I got started by reading a book about the house used in the series. It was a great book. Check it out sometime. It's called, "Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey." I loved it!

Lynn said...

Joe -

You crack me up!

Sara -

I hear and see that a lot - people thinking it's Downtown Abbey. I resist the urge to correct. :) I actually watched a documentary on PBS the other night about the house - Highclere. Fascinating. I'm glad you like that program, too - I love it.
