A new year, rained out and taking it all down

- My friend says that instead of a pie chart, we could use the lesser known cornbread chart.  This reflects how much cornbread that had been eaten so far.  :)  Part of a new year celebration dinner with friends that included the requisite black eyed peas and collard greens - a tradition in the south that the more you eat of them, the more prosperous you will be in the new year.  The peas represent coins and the greens represent folding money.  I'll let you know if it works.

- A rained out New Year's Day early morning walk, that meant I got to sit in front of the fireplace and watch a Thin Man film instead.  It literally started raining as I opened the door at 8:45 am to leave for it.  A gift.

- And on Monday, taking down all the Christmas decorations was bittersweet, but thinking it will be here again before you know it.  :)

Now a cornbread pie chart is something that I can definitely appreciate. :D

I like the representations in your New Year's dinner. It sounds yummy too! I saw "taking it all down" in your title and my mind went into automatic aversion mode. I dread this job : )

My cast iron skillet is square so I can't make a pie chart with mine.

Thinking I had seen THE GREEN MILE before, I started it again and watched it for the first time yesterday. Cried and cried.

I am eager for Christmas next year since we had to put it on hold this year.

I love the cornbread chart. Best wishes for prosperity in 2013. I'll be taking my decor down this weekend. :)

The cornbread chart with butter is even a better reference. Yummmm.

Wishing you more unexpected magical moments brought on by rain. Your movie morning sounded romantic.

Ha - I know, me too.

It was a yummy dinner. And yes - I was dreading taking it all down, too, and then I thought I was finished and forgot the kitchen decorations were still up.

Granny Annie -

I loved that film - The Green Mile. Yes - I cried, too - I remember.

I hope next Christmas is the best ever for you!

Best wishes to you, too!

I know - love it. And if only George Clooney had been with me. Or better yet - William Powell. :)

I really wish I had had collards and black-eyed peas yesterday...mostly as an excuse to also have cornbread. :P

I am making cornbread and black eyed peas tonight! I love the cornbread chart, though with my rectangular pan, a bar chart will work better ;-)

Rain is such a gift isn't it? I would like some here as a belated Christmas/New Year gift or even as an early birthday present. Rain makes the world smell nicer - and my garden adores it.
I don't think I have ever had corn bread - but the pie chart looked brilliant.

That is hilarious about the cornbread chart! We should try that.

Hey I ate a lot of peas today....;)

Oh no- I didn't eat any black eyed peas and collard greens! That explains it! We don't do anything like that up here!
Films on rainy days are good, as being under warm blankets in this freezing weather here with my films. My outdoor light cord is iced in place. Maybe by next week it'll melt enough. I'm not going out there this week- too cold with the windchill unless absolutely needed.
Looks like we need more rest this year!

Joanne -

I have a good vegetarian version of the collards and black eyed peas, too. :)

Margaret -

Sounds like a good dinner to me!

The Elephant's Child -

Rain is a gift. And I wish you lived around the corner - I'd make you some cornbread.

Riot Kitty -

Let me know if you do. :)

I'll say!

Then you will prosper if that legend is true. :)

I'm not sure where that tradition started, but I like it. I'm so glad you got the DVD player this year so you can snuggle in a home.

We had black-eyed peas and collard greens. I ate lots of the peas, but collard green...not so much. I wonder if that means I need to get a bigger coin purse:~) I was never a big fan of collard greens.

Yes, we've been getting the same rain. It's made a rather gloomy new year. It was nice you saw the rain as a gift. I've felt that way too, especially while sitting in front of the fireplace.

Okay, you would remind of my undone tasks. I still have a lot of holiday packing to do. It was my plan for today, but I decided visiting sounded more fun:~)

Happy new year. I hope yours brings you joy, new opportunities and lots of fun.

I'm glad you visited instead! I hope the New Year is wonderful for you, too.

That cornbread pie chart sounds like a great idea!

I still haven't taken down the Christmas decorations yet. I think I have until Saturday, otherwise I'll have a year of bad luck. ;)
