Three images that have been hanging out on my computer desktop. This seems like a good day to post them. I will call this Random Photo Wednesday. :)
- My hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia, ca. 1921. The train used to go right through that main street of town. And you can still see signs of those tracks in the street. The business pictured there, J.C. Grant & Co., is the oldest business still existing in Milledgeville and is still in that same location. (But looks very different now.) Click to enlarge.
- This smiling lady was my great grandmother. She was posing for the camera while picking tomatoes. I want to have this one enlarged and framed, I just haven't done it yet. I like to think of her smiling down from the family photo wall in my home office.

Ha ha I love the cartoon. Well no such luck here, it's jacket weather every day, but it is dry.
Enjoy wearing your shorts!
The cartoon is very applicable to Oklahoma as well. We never know from one day to the next.
Many towns have risen and fallen depending on the railroad. Our town was once a thriving community and now the trains just barrel through non-stop.
It is rare to find a photo from that time with the subject smiling. All my grandparent's pictures have them very somber. I love it.
That photo of your Great Grandmother is amazing, Lynn! And the cartoon is perfect. Yeah, weather is so unpredictable these days. I remember how we used to switch out our wardrobes for winter...but now I need to keep a variety of clothes ready. :)
Of course your great grandmother is smiling - that is a BUMPER crop.
And the weather cartoon is valid here too. Perhaps we should just dismiss all the weather boffins and employ cartoonists.
Such a wide happy smile, your great-granny.
Apt cartoon. Things change and swing that much from day to day?
How big do you think you will enlarge the picture to?
When did you leave Milledgeville to live elsewhere and where was it to? How long did you stay there? Where did you go next?
And tell me
tell me
tell me who
wrote the book
of love?
Was it you??! :)

I love old photos. There is just something about them, especially if there is a connection there.
We're dong teens tonight n 20 F's in the daytime for Thurs here. I'm wearing 4 layers in the house right now! At least the south bounces back up quickly- Lovely old pics to treasure. Your Great Grandma makes me smile too-
We are having similar wild weather here....One never knows what to expect....!
I LOVE Old Photo's....especially family pictures! That picture will be great blown-up and framed.
This reminds me of the Vaughan Monroe song from when I was a kid "The Train Goes Through the Middle of the House".
Old photos are wonderful.
Thanks for sharing, Lynn :)
It's only recently has it turned to double jacket/heavy winter jacket day up here. Sadly, the forecast for the weekend doesn't bring any confidence in the various towns and the state of getting the job done right.
Nice pic of your great grandmother.
I love your great-grandmother's smile:~) I returned mine own smile just looking at her. I can see why you'd want to enlarge this photo and put someplace where you can always look at it.
Also, given the time period the photo seems to taken in, smiling wasn't that common when a photo was taken...so it's double bonus.
The train going through the town must have been interesting. I have old photos of my hometown. I love looking at them:~)
Since I'm not that far from you...your weatherman basically predicts our weather, as well. I'm not to fond of the drastic temperature changes. At least today is nice and sunny...it's been awhile:~)
Beautiful photo of your grandmother and I need to get mine from my parents' house to frame as well. I'd like to have a family wall.
Funny cartoon. Mine would look like your Friday every day (but I'm not complaining!). :)
Stay warm and dry!
Yep, that cartoon definitely applies to Oklahoma!
Joe -
I stick to shorts in the spring and summer, but I have seen people wear them on warmer days. :)
Granny Annie -
I saw on facebook that you have been sick - so sorry! I hope you are better soon.
Thank you about my Great Grandmother. And you know the saddest thing was - her husband left her with no warning. Just disappeared. My grandfather had to drop out of school in the 8th grade and support the family. And she still smiled...
I love the weatherman's cartoon!
Your great grandmother looks like she has your attitude, Lynn :)
Talon -
I know - I'm all about layering clothes.
Elephant's Child -
A good idea - let the cartoonists predict the weather. :)
Anil P -
She did have a great smile. Yes - the weather did fluctuate that much for a few days there. Good to see you, my friend.
Jannie -
Hmmm - about 8 x 10, I think. I moved from Milledgeville, GA to Atlanta, GA when I was 20 and have been here a long time now. :)

FB -
I think so, too.
Snaggle -
I'm glad she made you smile. Her nickname was Lucy - I like that.
Naomi -
I'm spending a small fortune getting things framed. I love seeing my family around.
Lee -
That sounds like a wonderful song!
G -
I think it's just going to rain again this weekend, but I can live with that.
Sara -
It's easy to smile at her, I think - I'm glad she made you smile.
Ily -
Yes - you have the golden weather down there, I think.
Mama Zen -
I hear there is lots of snow there right now.
Riot Kitty -
Thank you - I think we would have liked each other.
I love all three of these pictures. Your great grandmother looks like a sincerely happy lady.
A bakery right across the street from work! I'd give anything for a bakery within 20 miles! (I mean a REAL bakery, not Kroger's)
Your great grandmother is so charming! I can see where you get it from. ;-)
Hi Lynn .. fascinating photos and thanks so much for sharing with us - amazing to think the railway was centre stage not that long ago ..
Cheers Hilary
I forgot the cartoons - aren't they fun .. and boy have you been having just tempestuous weather .. I'm hoping it's going north of us to Scotland!
The snows sound rather unpleasant .. cheers Hilary
I see, an 8 x 10. I have a 5 x 7 frame I think you might like, judging by the style of frames I see in some of your blog posts, but too big for what you have planned for your grandmother's. Oh well, for a smaller photo, then. Ahhh, I see you have been in Atlanta most of your life. In another 3 years, I'll be able to say that about Austin -- lived here most of my life. :)
