Green space, purple daylilies and suburban garden

- The back door of the antiques shop that I frequent on the weekends was open on Saturday - they had decided to let in some fresh air.  I love this green space and asked the owner if they might have a garden there sometime.  She replied that the restaurant next door was planning to turn it into some sort of outdoor seating for warm weather.  Either way - it was a nice surprise to see it.

- I'm seeing more and more daylilies blooming around.  These were spotted along the way on my Sunday morning walk up the street where I live.  I love the deep purple color of them.  Daylilies are so hardy and often seen in the borders of gardens here in the south.  I used to see a therapist at his home, during a sad time several years ago.  He was a widower and his garden was a tribute to his late wife's gardening skills - daylilies being a large part of the display.  We would walk the garden at the end of the session and talk about the flowers.  I guess this is why I focus so much on flowers here and I do love them so.

 - The neighbors in the house across the street from the condos also have a large lot to their right that has always looked a bit like a jungle, but in the past couple of years, they have worked and worked to clear it and make a vegetable garden.  I see as many as five people at a time, wearing big hats, working there, with children playing around.  The sun was so bright at the end of my walk on Sunday that I didn't realize my thumb was in the photo, too.  :)  I cropped out most of it.  Shaking head.  I'll get a better photo next time.  Click to enlarge if you can - a lot of work is going into this plot of land.

It'd be wonderful if the restaurant turned their back area into a vegetable and herb garden...they could use their own produce in the restaurant...they could have a recycling going on...from garden to restaurant; from restaurant kitchen back to garden...good compost. Tables and chairs could be selectively placed in between the plants. Vegetables, herbs, fruit trees such as oranges and lemons etc - even flowers for their inside tables....could be very interesting! My imagination is off and running! :)

Beautiful daylilies. That vegetable garden is going to be amazing when finished. I'm starting the "raw til 4" diet (although I switch it and eat raw after 4 with a lite cooked meal at lunchtime while traveling if the salad isn't good at the restaurant). I would love to start a vegetable garden at the new place, but I'll settle for growing herbs for now. :)

I love outdoor spots like these. Gardening is indeed very good for the soul- n I'm sure the Creator appreciates us noticing all put here to brighten our lives. I will get to bring some garden life with me on my move. Hope I can get it to fit in the little garden corner they gave me. My deck plants are doing well n hope the move doesn't shock them too much. The rain dented our zones drought a bit yesterday.

Nice havens... it has been so hot here lately that the only way I've wanted to be outside is to be on the water.

But...I like jungles! My back yard is like a little slice of Michigan woods.

I like the idea of that first garden being used by the restaurant for outside seating. It's always nice to eat outside.

I've always wanted a vegetable garden, but am too lazy to do it. Sigh.

My goodness, that is a very large veggie garden! There is a community garden near my house, and I occasionally toy with the idea of getting involved with it, but then I remember that that would involve being outside in the hot sun, working, and I decide against it.

It's always lovely to discover an unexpected piece of greenery! I always like a bit of 'jungle' left in a garden too, more natural
