Mailbox flowers, the calla lilies are in bloom again and the bee

- I had my usual walk up the street on which I live on Sunday morning - early, between 8am and 9am.  There was no one much stirring about except early church goers at the Baptist church up the street.  I thought these blooming plants around this mailbox were pretty and snapped a phone photo on my way up the street.  The property on the other side of the street, that is for sale, figures into the next photo.

- On my return trip, I noticed some calla lilies swaying in the breeze - under a tree in the yard of the house for sale.  They were near the edge of the property, so I wandered into the yard a bit and snapped the photo.  They always remind me of the Katharine Hepburn quote from the 1937 film Stage Door"The calla lilies are in bloom again.  Such a strange flower - suitable for any occasion..."  A man flagged me down from the side of the house.  I was a little alarmed since I was trespassing, but he was an appraiser for a couple wanting to purchase the house and had questions about the sewer lines in the neighborhood that I couldn't answer.  I did tell him that this part of the neighborhood was once an old farm and the old farmhouse for the property stood right in back of the house that is now for sale.  He observed that the homes on the rest of the street seem old and some need updating, but I told him that this neighborhood is like a little united nations, and that's why I like it.

- And when I got home, there was a bee giving its attention to each of the yellow flowers in my hanging basket.  See it?  (Click to enlarge if you can.)  I loved that since I hear bees are growing more scarce these days.

Thanks for going on my walk with me!

Hooray for bees. And gardens.
Love the purple letter box flowers, though it is irritating me that I can't remember their names.
And callas are always a joy.

My gr-daughters proudly pointed out the calla lilies by their sidewalk. " we planted them! Grandma, see!" They are both so beautiful.

I LOVE seeing all the flowers----those by the Mailbox are my very favorite color.....And, indeed, I think of Hepburn, too, when I see a Calla Lily or two......And it is GOOD to see a Bee these days----they are in real trouble. Something we've done is killing them, and they are so very important to the balance of nature---including the foods we eat......That looked like a Bumble Bee! I love seeing your walks, my dear.

I have been away without my computer so I am trying to catch up. Thank you for coming to my blog a while back. I looked at your past posts. You asked what to do with basil – I make a quick sandwich for lunch that tastes good with basil. First I place the bread, buttered, in a frying pan to toast – then I take it out. On the inside of the bread I spread some creamy Dijon or Thousand Island dressing, then pimiento cheese (bought in the dairy section,) then a slice of very ripe tomato, salt and pepper a bit, then several leaves of Basil – voila – it is quite good and fast (sometimes I add a slice of cooked bacon to that.) I use basil in many dishes – I like it very much with fresh broccoli flowers cooked quickly in the microwave – then I add some virgin olive oil, chopped fresh basil and rosemary and just a dash of balsamic vinegar. I am not good at writing recipes though as you can tell.

I hope the mail-person doesn't have pollen allergies. Pretty lilies- never seen that type before. I'm surprised you knew the farm which used to be there- interesting. Wow- great bee pic! I haven't been able to try yet.

Brave pic of the bee and it looks and sounds like you live in a great neighborhood. Hoping I feel the same in my new place. I will take pics when I'm officially moved.

How clever to have captured the bee in your photo. I love bees...they are so crucial to our survival.

I love to see bees bumbling around.

I recently sat on the lawn of an unoccupied house for sale in order to watch three wild bunnies play nearby. Eventually they all hopped away. I left without having to justify my presence to anyone, thank goodness.

I am very pro-bee. Speaking of which, email me if you are interested in some seed paper that is supposed to bloom clover when planted - and attract bees.
