- A good book club discussion on "The Year of Living Biblically" by A.J. Jacobs. Consensus that it was less about a faith journey than getting a best seller written. However we liked this question, and suggestion by the author: if an eleventh commandment was written, what should it be? "Thou shalt not have certainty that you are right."
- Enjoying Joan and her husband's friendly lawn sign rivalry. There was one sign for John McCain and another for Barack Obama. She says it has been a 20-year debate.
- Joan had sent out an email with directions "For those of you who live way out in the Boonies", and three women walking in announcing they had survived their journey from the Boonies. Joan took the in-town snobbery kidding good naturedly.
