Visit, walking distance and standing guard

- A holiday visit to my home town. This is the Milledgeville (Georgia) Convention and Visitors Bureau, aka "Old Milledgeville Post Office" built in 1910, later converted to be the county library where I worked in an after school job. A new library was built a few years ago, so this building has been used for local tourism since.

- Tours of Milledgeville are given in this trolley car. The library was a wonderful place to work, right in the center of town and within walking distance to everything.

- Toy soldiers at the corner stand guard over a familiar view.

Now those are the sorts of soldiers I love to see around a town ;)

What a lovely building - the arched windows are beautiful.

I love the trolley car! What a fun ride around town...

I agree with Talon. Those soldiers are great.

Lovely characterful building. So I'm assuming if you worked in a library, you must know how to talk quietly then? :D

Wonderful old architecture, with such character, and what a clever way to preserve a bit of the history, with trolley tours. :)

Thanks for sharing, Lynn.

Oh, and I hope your holiday visit to the old stomping ground was lovely and satisfying!

Yes - my kind of soldiers, too. The windows have wide stone windowsills. The librarian loved African Violets and the windowsills were lined with them.

And I've never ridden it. There's still time. Mom and Dad have moved to another town now and so we are slowly packing up our family home to get ready to sell.

Joe -

My mom made me get a summer job the year I was 16, and this was the only place I applied - I had always loved it there. Character building for sure and I do know how to talk quietly AND loudly. :)

That is all so cute! I'd totally go on one of those trolley tours.

Meredith -

We were all over the place, but the holiday was great!

Riot Kitty -

I will do that at some point - they just started that a few years ago. Wal-mart has sucked the life out of the downtown area, so they are do some things like that to revitalize it.

Mama Zen -

Me, too. I tried to go in the building on Friday - they were closed though. It looks quite different inside now.

A nice looking structure holding up well, with so much personal history for you! We atill have a Post Office in the center that looks very like that- with stairs.
I'd love to take a trolley tour.

So did you have to "Shoosh!" folks at the Library?

Galen -

It was a beautiful day. "Black Friday" to some - my sister and I did go to the tiny mall in Milledgeville that evening so she could get a deal on some new sheets. :)

Cookie -

Isn't it charming? It was warm that day - in the 60s.

Snaggle -

No - no shooshing. We were a talking friendly library. A wonderfully cheerful place to be.

What a wonderfully historical town you grew up in. I always love these posts of Millidgeville.

And those 3 "nutcrackers" -- the BEST!! Reminds me I need to see about tickets for the big Ballet Austin show of it for Kelly and me.

I'm so glad you like them. It is going to be bittersweet when the house sells and there is no reason to go there anymore. I will make special trips, I'm sure. Maybe I'll even take a trolley ride one day. :)

The Nutcracker - I so love it.
