Madison time, curling up and former glory

- A meeting in a favorite small town, Madison, Georgia, at The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, in a building that until 1957 was a "graded school." Two women were entirely gracious about my slightly late and breathless arrival by saying, "You're on Madison time now."

- So cold that even in middle Georgia the pansies decide to curl up against the cold. I still spend a cheerful hour looking in shops and having a sandwich despite the cold and before the snow fell.

- One by one, the homes in Madison are being restored to their former glory. The home directly across the street will be on the spring tour. The cultural center is host to all sorts of exhibits and its auditorium will house an upcoming concert by John Mayer.

G-man -

Yes - you were first. :) I am not enjoying this cold weather very much, but this too shall pass.

I am always in awe of the gorgeous architecture in your part of the world - gracious, beautifully porportioned - and the beautiful way you capture it.

We could all use a little bit of that "Madison time" :)

Thank you! I do love the old buildings. This one is gorgeous on the inside, too, with original electric light fixtures.

Exactly - more Madison time is in order. :)

Thank you - I wandered around the museum area a little and took a few more pics which will be appearing all week.

Wishing we were all on Madison time. Actually, I think where I live is on Seneca time, because whenever someone visits from Atlanta they say how peaceful and restful it is; even driving around here is slow. Hope you get more of that, Lynn. It seems to heal whatever ails a body. :)

Yes, my pansies and violas may be done for, which is so sad as I'd expected them to last at least 'til March. :(

I love those old Southern homes. Aren't they enchanting?

Ah - sounds like Seneca might have the same sort of vibe as Madison.

Those old homes ARE enchanting. I love to go on those tours.

I love the buildings. Everything looks immaculate too.

Were you allowed to take photos inside the museum?

Joe -

Yes - but I asked first. They were very nice about it.

Those little pansies should pop right back. I've not yet got mine this winter, still plenty of time.

Middle Georgia, eh? Lovely towns there, I can tell.

Awesome belfry spire on that Cultural center! I do hate being late. no big deal- priceless! You know it's "Sub-Z" (below freezing/zero) when pansies don't bloom! Nice little park there. I have a John Mayer live CD- it will be a wild show.

Jannie -

Madison is about a 30 minute drive from my home town of Milledgeville. It was on the path of the Civil War Union Army General's "March to the Sea" - Madison was spared burning because it was so beautiful, so they say.

You were just here! I love John Mayer, too, and am hoping the ladies will invite me to hang out.

The belfry tower has a lovely school bell. And let's hope those pansies pop back... So many days of sub-z weather in a row.
