So I did, Stella and the snow

- I was telling our holiday loving receptionist at my office on Friday how much Christmas decorating paraphernalia I have, but that I haven't really felt the spirit yet. Her eyes sparkled and she said, "You should put up your little tree this weekend, you would enjoy it, I'll bet." So I did and she was right.

- A shopping expedition on Saturday with friend Barbara G, with the best part of the day being the fun lunch. There are all sorts of holiday drinks on the menu - Barb almost gets a rum and coke float (only in the south...), but decides the calories might kill her. She settles on a glass of red wine and I order a beer - Stella Artois, because I like to say that.

- A blustery day on Sunday. I exit the church service, chatting with a friend's son, Brett. He says, "It's snowing!" And indeed, a flake is falling here and there. It didn't amount to much, but I enjoyed my inside snow watch day and ended it by making a soul warming stew that involved a couple of hours of stirring. Yum.

Snow outside and stew inside are a fine combination indeed.

Hi Lynn,
We had snow yesterday too - a blizzard!!! Church was canceled. So, what does my oldest child do? Gets the sleds out to go sledding on the hill in our backyard...in his shorts!!! (but...he claimed he was wearing really long socks, and that made all the difference....)

Well, it was snowing here after church on Sunday--snowing with gusty winds and falling temperatures. But it's December and this is Michigan (and the Lions won, so hell probably froze too)

A warm house and a stew on the stove - that's my idea of bliss on a winter day...(though I have to keep reminding myself it's not winter yet!)

Jannie -

Black-eyed Pea Stew from Cooking Light. So good - I don't about for breakfast though. You'll come up with the recipe if you Google that (make sure you put the part about Cooking Light.) I use collards instead of mustard greens. Yum. Both good though.

I wish it would snow in earnest. We like snow down here, but it doesn't really stick. Flakes are swirling around right now - it's about 22 degrees.

Lance -

How funny - a free spirit, that one, huh? :)

That's the pass through from my dining room to the kitchen. But our office is decorated to the hilt - thanks to Christmas loving receptionist.

Sage -

I take it the Lions don't win much? I confess to not keeping up. :)

Talon -

I know - what's that about??? I have some of that stew for lunch today here at work.

Read with tone (Home for the Holiday)

Decorating for the holiday
Lifting sprits High
Stringing mistletoe
And bulbs that glow
Singing jingle bells
along with the radio

Decorating for the holiday
Cooks warm I know
Sprinkles on the edge
Sugar plums are lots of fun
And their dancing
in my head

Shopping with your friend G
A lunch a drink or two
Tho the calories were grand
You would do it again
So really what
Were you to do

Snowflakes falling down
Only a very few
Now is the time
To go inside
And make myself
A pot of yum stew.

Stella Artois is the beer I drink too.

We put up the Christmas decorations a couple of weeks ago because we were snowed in, and I'm already sick to death of them! :D

I wasn't in the spirit either, but after putting up the tree last weekend, I can't wait to get home and light it up! The outdoor decorations are fun and festive, too. We're one step behind the Griswold's! :)

PS - I like the sound of Stella Artois as well, and warm stew on a cold, snowy night sounds ideal, btw.

I think I'm gradually getting into the spirit of it all. I don't know. I'll have to put our Christmas tree too. Perhaps that'll help me as much as it did you... :P

Now, some of that lovely soul warming stew you mentioned would certainly do the trick... ;)

Thank you for stopping by.

Ellis -

Outstanding! Well done, my friend. I did sing along to your poem. :)

Joe -

You are? I will probably be ready to take it all down on New Years Eve myself.

Lulu -

I wish I could send you some stew! :) It was so nice to light up the tree when I got home last night and I am up so early that I can have the lights on before work, too.

Tony -

I hope so. Listening to fun holiday music helps, too. I wish I could mail some stew to you. :)

Riot Kitty -

It's so cold here this morning - I'm afraid to stick my nose out, but I have to.

Snaggle -

Keep that rum float thing in mind for a festive holiday drink. :)

I never liked stew when I was a kid, but as an adult I have developed an affection for homemade stew, especially when its homemade by my husband.

I order drinks like that too: I go for whichever one has the best name.
