- This gorgeous plate made of clay was a Christmas gift from my sister, who bought it for me last October at the John C. Campbell Folk School arts and crafts show. The artist is Laurey-Faye Long, who takes her inspiration from Mark Trail comics, Palissy - the French potter of the 1500s, and historic American Art Potteries Rookwood and McCoy.
- A lot has been written about facebook, but I have enjoyed catching up with people who I might have never heard from again. This time spotting the name of a childhood friend and neighbor, Cheryl, who neighborhood kids called Cherry. I remember once calling her Cheryl at school and she quickly corrected me - no, Cherry to you. So I have sent her a message on facebook calling her just that.
- A wonderful dinner from the Rainbow Grocery hot food bar: soy meat loaf (I swear, it is delicious), mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy (oh yum) and braised broccoli with almonds (so good). It was fun to blow off the South Beach Diet for these mashed potatoes. A little bit of carbohydrate heaven.

I'm on a diet at the moment but today I'm going out for lunch with a friend and I'm going to have burger and fries and stuff the diet for one day!
Happy Wednesday to you!
Ha, and I was first too!
Great looking plate, and a sobering thought is that almost no one knows about the old comic strip "Mark Trail".
I love that plate, especially since it has a frog on it!!
I love your food reports! :-)
It is a nice plate
But no food it’ll see
Under a French potter
And bought for me
Facebook is not bad
Or as bad as some say
I meet a very old friend
On this very day
Soy meat loaf you swear
I think I would too
Through you off a diet
Still it was only food

Sounds as if we are on the same wavelength with the diet this week. I just could not go without those potatoes once I spotted them. Enjoy stuffing the diet! :)
And congrats on being first!

I remember Mark Trail! Shame on me - I didn't realize that the cartoonist Ed Dodd drew that strip in Atlanta - I just looked it up. There is an exhibit at a college in nearby Gainesville, Georgia that I must see.

Isn't it gorgeous? I was overwhelmed with the beauty of her work and kept coming back to this one. My sister went back and got it for me (I knew it, but tried to forget so I'd be surprised on Christmas morning.) :)

I'm glad - I do it enough. I love my food.

A good wrap-up poem - thank you for it! :)
What a lovely platter! It is just gorgeous.
Gorgeous plate. The colorations are simply wonderful!
I'll take your word on the soy meat :)
That plate is clay? Wow!
Carb Heaven is one of my many middle names! :)
I just loved enlarging that plate pic and seeing the wonderful detail. Beautiful lighting in that shot too, Lynn! So warm and inviting -- like it's owner!! :)
Pronouced just like Cherry, the fruit?
xoxoxo

That artist lives and works in Sylva, NC - probably not far from you.

It really is good - I wish I could mail it to you to try. Ha!

I wish I had that kind of talent.

What a name! :)
I was experimenting with camera effects and chose one called "glow" - I liked the subtle glowy effect.
Yes - Cherry, like the fruit.
Great picture - soy meatloaf with mashed potatoes sounds fantastic. I am a carb addict for sure.
Soy meatloaf, huh? I admit, I'm curious to try it to see how it tastes. Maybe lots of gravy would help. :)
Facebook does have its moments, doesn't it? I'm happy to hear you reconnected with an old friend.
Oh my gosh, that dinner sounds good. I used to work in a health food store that had a veggie lunch counter with food like that. I miss it very much.
aha! That's what the new plate holder was for... Quite a piece of relief sculpture on it! I once had a friend Sherry in school who was the only one shorter than me! Some nic names are so unique-
I don't know what I'd eat without carbs! Potatoes n gravy-mmmm I do burn them off tho- Sounds good.

I don't know what that is they season it with, but it is fantastic. Real comfort food, too.

I'll take a picture of it next time - it looks like and has the same texture as meat.

I would probably use all my earnings eating the food if I worked there. It is a bit pricey, but I consider it a treat.

Yes - I thought it was a perfect match for the golden tones of this plate.
I imagine you do burn off calories easily with your standing up job.
love your blog...we carry Laurey's pottery in our Galllery, Mountain Nest, in Black Mountain if people are interested in seeing her work. It is my favorite pottery in the Gallery, and that says a lot! 133 Cherry St, Black Mountain.
