- The Campus Theatre in Milledgeville, Georgia - newly restored by the local university. It was where I used to spend most Saturdays when I was growing up, at double and even triple features. For years, an accountant owned the building and worked out of the offices upstairs, and was asking an astronomical amount of money for the theatre. The college worked out a deal, bought it, has lovingly restored it and even put a coffee shop with a fun name off to the side. A bookstore resides in front and there is still a small theater in the back.
- Friend Jim H. sends this message: "In the Keys on Holiday. Family got to snorkel for the first time. Had some good hole-in-the-wall food, some bad parrot head music - All's well." They are a great family with two young boys - so lovely that they are having this time.
- A friend who is in addiction recovery sends this on facebook: "The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up." - Mark Twain. Like!

Will Lynn maybe I should go with three today and yester and the day before, probably tomorrow too.
I sure like snorkeling but I'll just stick to the lakes.
I always wondered why some people think the things they own have a greater value.
Wow, I remember double features! The last one I saw was The French Lieutenant's Woman and Eye Of The Needle, which shows you how long ago it was. About 30 years ago.
There is a suburb near me that had an old neighborhood theater (I saw Steel Magnolias there). The theater closed, unfortunately, but the facade was kept. They put local announcements on the marquee now. Inside, it's a CVS pharmacy, which is a little disappointing, but the old turnstiles are still there, just inside the outer door. I'm glad they at least preserved some of the old girl.
The memories of the theater and its new use all sound sweet (Glad you can still catch a show there). And you can't beat a winter vacation in Key West.
The children and I attended a restored theater in Tulsa,OK called The Brookside Theater. They showed old movies like THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and STATE FAIR. It was fun for me and a great experience for my children. Sadly the theater is gone now.
When I was in college I decided to take scuba diving lessons. I quit after the first lesson because, try as I may, I could not sink.
Lynn, you must be a very cheerful person because you certainly do your share to cheer the rest of us with your posts:)
What a cool deal for the college to own that! Is it a private college?

I don't know - he was asking so much money that it was out of sight for anyone seriously seeking to restore it. Sad that the theater part was empty for more than 25 years. The college applied for a Georgia Higher Educational Facilities Authority grant from the state to fund its renovations and received about $7 million. They are using it for film production classroom work, too.

I'm always curious why comments were deleted. :)

They used to specialize in westerns and the like. I saw many westerns there.
I'm glad they preserved that theater near you, too. I like things like that - even if it is just a drugstore.

I have never been to Key West, but hear it is beautiful. It's on my list.
Granny Annie -
There was an old theater near my office they used to call The Silver Screen and they had things like Alfred Hitchcock film festivals. There was scarcely an empty seat during those showings. I was sad when it closed and never understood why.
Thank you for that compliment - you make me smile! And that is what I aim for.

No - it is a state school - Georgia College and State University. It is where I went during my first leg of college. A beautiful place to attend school.
That's a great quote.
The movie house - that brought back some great memories! Thanks, Lynn!
How do you find all these wonderful buildings?!
Thanks for the Twain quote, very true!
drop me an email and I'll share with you why comments are deleted (or why this one was, I think I know)
Lynn,
I don't think my first comment went through and so, I'll start again.
I love it when old building, like this theater, are renovated instead of being torn down. It's even better that it has a special meaning to YOU.
It's also nice when you know your friends are doing well.
I'd say this post is a triple feature of good things for Lynn.
Love this "threes." :~)
I love that Twain quote. And, it's absolutely true!

I'm glad. I had a bit of dream for this theater and they did exactly what I had dreamed - a small theater for performing arts and art film with a coffee shop inside.
There is currently no bookstore other than this one there, so that is nice that they did that, too.

I just love stuff like that. :) I'm glad you like the quote!

Thank you!

I liked your three questions about love yesterday on your blog post - three is good and supposedly my lucky number. :)
That theater is also where I had my first date, where my mom and I used to go to afternoon movies - so many memories there.
Mama Zen -
I think so - I was rather struck by it.
Shall we meet there?? Fitting place for our first meeting!
I love the thought of Younger Lynn watching all those movies. :)
Yep a million times on the Twain thought.
xoxo
Ah Jannie -
What fun we would have - getting coffee at Jittery Joes and then we could window shop down W. Hancock Street. :) I'm ready when you are, my friend.
Milledgeville - a place that I never thought I would miss until it was just out of my grasp.
That's a great quote from Twain - good luck to your friend.
What is parrot head music?
That building has some wonderful details to see when clicked for the larger pic. I did lunch in the Keyes to bad parrot music myself back in '01- It is a laid back way there. Would love to snorkle there too someday. Great Twain quote, n SO true! You always cheer me up btw!
RK, it's Jimmy Buffet tunes
Riot Kitty -
Jimmy Buffet fans call themselves Parrot Heads and actually dress up in outfits resembling parrots - Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats. :)

I'm so glad that you are cheered up by my blog. That makes me want to keep doing it!
And I so love when buildings are torn down. I've seen that too much.
