Like magic, dragonfly and unexpected

- When my sister was at the river house in July, the neighbor next door (who is a master gardener), invited them over for the opening of the Evening Primroses. Apparently they open just once a year, at night. Neighbors from around the river bend neighborhood gathered and watched, and one by one, blossoms unfurled. Like magic. The brown stuff above is them, in a photo taken last weekend. My sister says next door neighbor must be letting them go to seed.

- A dragonfly buzzes around my car as I wait for a traffic light to change. I wonder if they are good luck - I've always loved them. So a Google search says that in Japan dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness. Perfect.

- Receiving a friend card in the mail on the same day that things weren't going well and delighting in the bookmark with the chefs hat on it inside. I'll think of her every time I use it.

The evening primroses do sound magical. I'm sorry for your friend, but sending cards is so thoughtful. You can have the dragonflies. I'm a praying mantis girl, myself. :)

If they open "just once a year" how does the gardener know what night they will open?

We have had dragonflies buzzing all around the place. In light of Ron's cancer treatments, it is now good to know what they represent.

At the time of my divorce from the children's father a friend of ours sent me a card. It only said "Hi". She was a person I assumed would show support for my ex instead of me. The card was a treasure as was our friendship and I still have that card. Sadly my friend was killed in 1990 but I never hear a soft "Hi" without thinking of her.

What a neat idea; to gather for the opening of blooms, I like that! Sorry that you were having a hard day Lynn, it is so welcoming to get a card on a day like that though!

They are magical sounding. :)

Granny Annie -

Right? I don't know how she knew it would be that night, but she threw together a party over that.

I just read your good news on your post. Outstanding news and may more dragonflies come your way!

That's a lovely story about your friend. It's wonderful when things like this come just when they are needed.

I like that, too. Lots going on here with the job, lg, but I'll be OK.

I've always loved dragonflies, but wrongly believed that they could sting, but that's not true at all.

Wow the evening primroses are very shy then! :D

I bet I know who the bookmark fairy was! one came to me too.

And wow, I never knew that about evening primroses. Must be a "hot night" in flower love land.

Yes, dragonflies ARE lucky. When I was singing Ave Maria at Laura's wedding when Kelly was 4, one flitted all around us. Our Kelly is named for Laura's sister who died in a car crash. She was there that day on wings of love to bless her sister's wedding, I'm sure of it.

Riot Kitty -

I have a bit of a collection going - I adore them. Hey - birthday girl!

Me -

'Libellule' - how lovely. I'll remember that. And you have a lovely blog - I just visited.

Mama Zen -

I'm so glad - I saw two more today.

Joe -

I think they must be!

Jannie -

A good fairy, she is.

And that story made me tear up a little - I'm so emotional today. I know that was a visit from Laura's sister Kelly at the wedding.

I love friend cards, but they can be terrifically hard to find. Everything is always birthday cards. What if I want to send my friends something more than once a year, Hallmark?

Neat about the evening primroses. I love dragonflies and butterflies...they always seemed touched with magic messages :)

I run into the same thing trying to find generic fun cards to send to my mother. :)

Anything that's magical is OK in my book.

We have alot of sea-side primroses here- a party for them is an interesting idea. Going to seed is good cause they'll be more next year.
Dragonflies may be your spirit creature!
Better than all the green buggies I found in the house this week, including a neon green grass hopper!
Reminds me of a Paige bookmark I got n am using in my triple- novel volume this summer. I'm on the last couple pages now- Need a new book for the marker soon!

I quite like what they say about the dragonfly in Japan.
