The games, happy to be stuck with you and trail

- Looking forward to hearing pipers like these (the Virginia Military Institute from another year) this weekend at the Stone Mountain (Georgia) Highland Games and hosting my Scottish Clan's tent for the fifth year in a row. All I had to do was walk into the tent and smile back then and suddenly I was in charge of it.

- It was kind of like that Air Tran commercial in which the last lines are, "Don't leave us with the babies! Don't leave us with the babies!" ...as the car is pulling away and the parents are going on vacation and leaving the grandparents with the babies. :)

- Someone leaves a trail of candy corn on the sidewalk outside my building. A guilty looking squirrel is startled when trying to sneak one away and scrambles off.

Candy corn seems so fallish. It's sure to be a beautiful fall weekend here in the ATL. I hope yours is lovely!

Now that's funny. The grandparents that is.

Sort of reminds that whenever I decide to/have to take some time off from work, people panic a little because no one else can really do my particular payroll.

I started out just visiting my clan's tent, then they recruited me to help and one by one the recruiters dropped out of sight, never to return. Somehow it's my tent now. I laughed a little when the Clan President emailed me in August to ask if I could "help" with the tent again this year. Uh yeah - I don't know what would happen to it if I didn't. :)

What would happen to that payroll if you were abducted by aliens? There's no backup plan?

Hearing pipers play Amazing Grace always brings me to tears.

I'm pretty sure we've cried "Don't leave us with the babies" before.

Try sprinkling candy corn in your popcorn for a real treat. (Just don't show any squirrels.)

LOVE pipers. And I wouldn't want to be left with the babies, but I don't remember the commercial, so I'm off to YouTube. :) mmmm candy corn.

Hi Lynn,
Have fun at the Games!!!

And I agree - candy corn sure does seem fitting for this time of year (and my kids certainly think so!)!!

I like candy corn! I like the consistency of it in my mouth.

And bagpipers make the world go 'round.

Have not seen that commercial, tho, but I can imagine the scene.

Have a happy day, dear!

Enjoy the Highland games Lynn!

Granny Annie -

My favorite thing to hear on the pipes is Highland Cathedral.

I'll have to try that combo sometime. :)

I tried to put a link, but it wouldn't let me - it's an Air Tran commercial.

Lance -

I will have fun. :)

Jannie -

Candy Corn is such a happy candy, isn't it?

I hope your day is good, too.

I will!

Lynn: I was specifically hired to do my particular payroll because no one else wanted to do it. Not sure what would happen, but I'm sure the old "chaos theory of management" would be involved in some particular way.

And the pervert in me asks: do they wear their kilts the true Scots way? :0

I always think it's dangerous for just one person to have the only knowledge of a practice in a business. But that makes you more valuable, so there you are.

Miriam -

Welcome and thank you. I'll visit your blog later today.

Sage -

I will. :) They are close to us in the Clan march on Sunday. (My last name begins with "M", too - big surprise.)

Riot Kitty -

Not that I looked, but they all seem to have shorts on underneath. :)

Wishing you a beautiful weekend full of candy corn dreams and happy squirrels! :)

I'm not a big one for straight-up sugar candy, but candy corn is something I can always enjoy. I guess that squirrel thought it was a brightly coloured nut!

Men in kilts! Men in kilts!

Never had the opportunity to see Pipers play live, only heard it broadcast. It must be as nice an experience to actually see them live as the music they create.

For the babies, I'd assume it's a vacation from parents as well :-)

The squirrel on the sidewalk outside your building reminded me the squirrels in the hundreds in the gardens of the MS University and Sayaji Baug in Baroda recently. And they loved peanuts.

Thank you, my friend, it's been a happy weekend so far. :)

Sparkling Red -

Definitely a treat for that squirrel! It's good to see you here - I'm glad you are feeling better.

Mama Zen -

They are everywhere this weekend. :)

Anil P -

I find watching a massed pipe band thrilling. I love seeing the drum majors high stepping in front of the pipers and drummers.

I sent that squirrel. He was supposed to bring me some candy corn. :-(

You have a trained squirrel??? :) Wow.

Great pic! Apparently smiles mean you volunteer? yikes! I hope the squirrel got to nab a few more... I haven't eaten those in years!
I can see above you did have a great time. We're having an odd feeling fall without leaf color here.

Snaggle -

That *is* odd - no leaf color in New England. The leaves are mostly green on the trees here, too.

Yes - I got stuck with that tent and recruited like mad during the weekend. I would love to find a young couple to train and then just help them out. That's what happened to me. :)
