Full of grace, gentle spirit and growth

- You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love... From the I Have a Dream speech, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The sign borders the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta just next to Freedom Parkway.

- This is the original church building for Ebenezer Baptist Church, standing for more than 122 years. It was here, from the pulpit of the Heritage Sanctuary, that Dr. King preached his ministry of nonviolence. The sign asking that cars yield to bicycles is a tribute to the gentle spirit of the neighborhood.

- Due to church growth, this much larger church building now resides just across the street. The King Center is just behind it.

I love living in a city with such rich history.  I took these photos last March (as you can tell from the leafing out of the trees) There were a number of photo snapping tourists around.  It's a holiday for most people today, but not me.  Sigh.  Off to work on a light traffic day.

Oh yeah - it's my 1002 post.  More than 1000 posts - I let that blogoversary slip by me last week.  :)

You put together an very interesting tribute to MLK Jr. What I see in blog world today will be the only celebrations I will come across. Our little town will have no mention nor will the surrounding towns in this area. I would like to say it's not a racial thing, but I would be wrong. How sad that people do not realize the hero he was to all of us.

Wow, congratulations on your 1000 posts!

Wow, congratulations on over a 1000 posts (I'm in my early 900s). I have always wanted to visit King's church in Atlanta, but haven't been able to arrange it yet.

Congratulations Lynn, on 1002!! That is (at least) 3006 good things. Think about it! :-)
Have you been to the King Center for anything?
Have a very good 'light traffic' work day, girl!
Lynn~ Have you seen 'The Help' yet? It is well worth seeing.

Granny Annie -

You are right - he was a hero to all of us.

Thank you - I knew that 1000th post would come up in January and had thought I would make it special. Then I forgot and posted about coffee. :)

FB -

Thanks - that's lots of good things.

Sage -

I am ashamed to say I've never been to a service there, but would like to go sometime.

G -

I think I racked up so many numbers because of posting every day when I first started. I don't think of you as a newbie at all.

happygirl -

The corporation I used to work for offered this holiday as an "optional" holiday - the other options being ones birthday, or President's Day. I think everyone should be off today.

And also I'm jealous of friends still home in pj's. :)

Yes - that is MANY good things. We all have them.

Yes - I have been there, but not to take a tour. I still want to do that.

I read "The Help" and haven't wanted to see the film - I guess because I already know what happened.

For some reason I thought your name was Kathy! Karen. Got it. :)

Talon -

Thank you and yes, I'm having a peaceful day.

What a beautiful post about what seems to be a lovely area. And I love the sentiments Martin Luther King expressed. Some day perhaps it will all come true.
Congratulations on the 1002 milestone. From my very new perpective that is amazing.

Happy blogoversary!

I had the privlege of visiting Dr. King's tomb and the museum. The old church was being fixed up, but I attended Sunday service in the new sanctuary. I cried soulful tears that day! I still have my Ebenezer coffee mug. . . .

We are on the road together!

That is a moving quote. I have never taken the time to listen to that speech in its entirety. I really need to do that soon.

I learned about Dr King's connections to Atlanta from my old blog friend Ellen who lives there, who's grandma had a cottage in my very town years ago! I'd thought of linking some of her MLK posts from the past, but ran out of time for searching.

I always got mad when we had school or no paid holiday at work for MLK Day. I think it's a worthy occassion.
N that's the famous church! ooo Tree leaves... Love that modern church design too.
Congrats on surpassing your 1k blogpost milestone!

It's a wonderful speech. They said on the news last night that the "I have a dream" part was an emotional add on that wasn't planned. It still gives me chills.

Snaggle -

Thank you. And yes - the leafing out makes me dream of spring...

Joe -

Thank you and yes, it's mind boggling to have so many posts.

Lovely tribute to MLK. You do live in a very historical place. It's seen many changes in it's lifetime, but is lucky to show the progress that's been made regarding people of color:~)

Congratulations on the 1002th post. Wow, how do you write that?
