Making a difference, kind lady and special treat

- My friend Robert drives a school bus part time and one of the children, Lorenzo, likes to give him his artwork.  This one was hanging on his refrigerator last weekend.  I was delighted and saddened at the same time.  Lorenzo apparently comes from a very large family and it makes me think that he might not be getting much attention at home.  I tell Robert that he was put there for a reason and he is making a difference in this child's life.

- Another friend finds a friendly, untagged and unchipped dog roaming around her house; all attempts to find its owner were fruitless.  She asks her friend the veterinarian what she should do with it.  "Name it."

- Astounded that Easter candy is already available, I nevertheless snag a Cadbury's Creme Egg and savor it as a late night snack after a rainy trip to book club.  I always smile at the yellow "yolk" in the center.  And it was good.

I hope you find many good things around you this weekend, my friends.  Have a great one!

What a cute drawing. It's amazing how people are put in our lives for a reason, and it looks like Robert is making a difference in Lorenzo's life.

Shops are focusing on Valentine candy here in the UK, but as soon as that's over I'm sure the Easter eggs will appear too!

The drawing is so sweet. And it's lovely that Robert is making a difference in Lorenzo's life.

lol @ the "name it" - did she?

Have a wonderful weekend, Lynn!

AWESOME--but I understand how you feel sad for the Child!

But in the End-- the YOLK was on you!

Good things indeed. I laughed at the Vet's comments!

I thought so, too. There was another one of a clock - he is learning to tell time.

Robert went to the Presbyterian seminary after a successful career as a department store executive. It was my honor to be at his ordination a couple of weeks ago. He is looking for a flock to minister to, but in the meantime, driving the bus. I think he's found a flock there.

Talon -

Yes - but I didn't hear the actual name. :)

John -

Yolk - I get it!

Sage -

I like a vet that doesn't steer someone toward an animal shelter. :)

If I can stop one heart from breaking - I will not have lived in vain - tell Robert that - and I think you do that too. sandie

That is both heartening and sad about the picture. I loved what you said to Lorenzo.

Okay, the story about the dog made me laugh. A perfect ending!

I wanted to tell that I did a Google search recently for some South Georgia pictures. After viewing tons of them, one popped up and I thought to myself, "This site looks familiar." I had landed on your site and it was a picture you took. I loved the synchronicity.

Have a great weekend:~)

I was the youngest child by quite a number of years. My mother, who was over children's artwork, told me that 'the poor lady up the road doesn't have any children and would love your painting/paper mache creation'. It worked. I gave her all my artwork for years. And I was in my twenties before it occurred to me that it was more about mama not wanting more children's artwork than about the neighbours wants/needs. I love that your friend keeps them.
Sorry for the loooong comment. You hit a nerve.

That picture is so sweet! Your friend has obviously endeared himself to this little boy. As for the Cadbury eggs...been there, done that already! NOM NOM! I don't remember ever having been able to get them as early as January before. Hooray!

I do think caring adults can make a huge difference for kids who have it tough. That's cool, n a nifty pic with the hand antlers.
Looks like your friend got a new dog. Hope that's okay n he turns out to be a great pet-
Your a Cadbury egger eh? I always picture n hear the "Bok, bok" Bunny audition commercial with the loud Lion wearing bunny ears...
I don't usually eat those eggs, but prefer Dove Dark Chocolate Eggs. mmm Happy Week-end to you too!

That picture could be framed and sold. At least it should be kept because I have no doubt Lorenzo is going to be famous one day.

You probably meant the dog was roaming around "outside" the house but it sounded like she found this dog roaming inside her house. Now that would be a shocker. Yep, she better name the dog. That's what we did with Slim.

It's Peeps for me at Easter time. They MUST be fresh ones, however. Once stale a Peep is not a Peep anymore, it's a cackle...

Hey Lynn! That line is the line that inspired me to write the poem and it is a line my husband uses in context regularly. Lynn, you 'nailed it,' girl! Better than a poke in the eye, eh?!
:-)
(Wanted you to see this, it's also on my blog. :-))

Sandie -

Thank you so much for saying that. I will tell Robert that and I hope to always live up to that compliment.

Sara -

That's so cool that you ran across one of my photos - I wonder which one? That is true synchronicity, my friend.

lg -

Me, too. I actually framed a fingerpainting my nephew wanted me to have when he was little. It's still framed in my kitchen.

The Elephant's Child -

I'll bet the neighbor did love getting your artwork. Still - it's always sad when children aren't made to feel cherished, I think. And always feel say how you feel here. No comment is too long for me.

Riot Kitty -

Biting into the shell - creme oozing out a little. Yum. :)

Snaggle -

I think the dog is a good pet so far - wish I had gotten the name.

Granny Annie -

Oh my - maybe I should go back and fix that! Sometimes I hammer these things out too quickly. :)

And Robert says Lorenzo is so sweet - I imagine he will be famous one day.

You won't believe this - but I've never had a Peep.

I loved your post - I'm glad I "got it!" xo

Christmas and Easter bookending one post. Well, that's alright - they're both about one of my favourite guys, and I don't mean Santa. ;-)

Mmm... Cadbury's Cream Eggs are the best. I used to like the baby ones, around 1/4 the size of a real egg. (I don't eat them anymore because of the milk in the chocolate).

Three lovely stories, thank you. My neice just emailed that it's time for buying Girl Scout cookies - my favorite time of year!

There's a cute name for the dog: "Name It".

I agree, it's kind of disconcerting to see Easter stuff out already, and doubly disconcerting that I can't have any of that kind of candy, unless it's sugar free, and sugar free is nasty.

Lynn said...

Sparkling Red -

I hadn't thought of that - I guess Lorenzo's artwork does have a Christmas theme at that.

Melissa Ann -

I love the Girl Scout cookies, too - thin mints. Yum.

G -

I have tried some sugar free candy recently and thought it was good. It was Russell Stovers turtles. Very good actually.

Can you believe I've NEVER tried one of those eggs?? I've never even had an Easter basket...not part of the Cuban culture. On that note, I never had a Tooth Fairy give me money for losing any of my baby teeth either. Maybe I'll get big bucks later in life when I lose my "permanent" teeth! lol

I love the drawing, btw. Glad your friend is a part of this boy's life.

Love that line: "Name it!" Ha! :)

Lynn said...

Scarlet -

That makes me want to get you an Easter basket! I used to love that, although the Easter candy now seems way better as it was back then. Try the Cadbury egg - it's so good. :)

Jannie Funster said...

Oh yes, on the yolk of a Cadbury Easter Creme egg!!

Nice art. I bet he just adores his bus driver, and Robert sounds like a nice mentoring sort.

name it! :)

Oh the tales we have heard about the school bus - we told him he needs to write a book.

It is quite an honor when a child gives you something he or she has made. Does Robert know how lucky he is? I hope he takes the opportunity to show his gratitude to and interest in that child.

your stories are always adorable!

I think the beauty of a large family is the ability to find ways to stand out when you need to stand out. Lorenzo has a talent. :)

Robert's light is shining every time he speaks of these kids and especially his friend Lorenzo. He does know.

Betty -

Thank you - I love your blog, too.

Absolutely.
