Midtown, quirky and Neil Diamond

- The lights of midtown Atlanta looked so beautiful as I was leaving volunteer work last night that I just had to get a "through the windshield" shot.

- Techwood Dr, referenced in the street sign above, leads to the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology (aka Georgia Tech.)  My GPS pronounces this street as "Tetchwood Doctor", which never ceases to make me laugh out loud.  It pronounces all streets ending in "Dr" as "Doctor", except in Florida, which I will never understand.

- The director of my volunteer organization has a newspaper ad for an upcoming Neil Diamond concert.  "Do you like him?" I ask.  She answers, "No, I don't like him.  I LOVE him!"  Me, too.  And we agree that "I am...I said" is our favorite Neil song.  We decide we were separated at birth after a discussion about how both our ex-husbands didn't like him at all.  :)

I love that shot! I will occasionally play a Neil Diamond song at a disco. My father-in-law was a big fan, me less so.

Beautiful shot thru the windshield, Lynn! How c-c-c-cold is it by you?

I chatted so much about Neil Diamond and took so many cellphone calls while I was there, that I didn't leave until 7:30pm - I took a picture from the side of the building, too, but it came out too grainy and fuzzy. It was just a beautiful clear night and the lights looked gorgeous.

I know - I laugh at the gps all the time. Very entertaining. :)

My other favorite song of his is "Sweet Caroline" - also a favorite at sports events.

23 degrees when I left home at 7am. I imagine it's much colder in the mountains where you are.

Any husband who doesn't like Neil Diamond is best an EX! :) Luckily mine LOVES him too, as do I.

Except in Florida -- hilarious. I guess gps is state programmed?? :)

Goes off singing September Morn -- a tune Andrea Bocelli sings sometimes.

Dr is "doctor"? I guess your GPS doesn't like physicians much. It wants to instruct you to drive on them. ;-)

When I think of that Neil Diamond song, I immediately think of the lyrics:

"I am, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair" - that's loneliness!

Love the city lights shot, Lynn.

Yeah - I don't miss him too much. :) I knew Jim was an awesome man! Neil Diamond is the best. Love that song, too.

I don't know, but when I programmed it in Florida to find an address, the voice said Drive. But when I came back to Georgia, it switched back to Doctor.

xo

Sparkling Red -

That's funny!

Talon -

Thank you. And I just love the opening of that song. You are right - it is all about loneliness.

I saw him in concert just once and had to sit behind the stage. He came around back and sang just to us a few times though and said, "Did you guys actually have to pay for those seats?" :)

I think that Neil Diamond should be everyone's secret guilty pleasure.

That is a beautiful through the windscreen shot, and your GPS cracks me up. I am still wondering why Florida is exempt. Any ideas?

That is a really neat photo. I am a closet Neil Diamond fan myself.

No secret for me!

The Elephant's Child -

I guess that it has something to do with the programming of it at the factory. The first time I put in an address in Florida with the word Dr - she said Drive instead of Doctor and I was astounded. :)

I have that album and love it, too.

Riot Kitty -

Thank you. And you are out of the closet now. :)

BragonDorn -

Now I am curious where you live.

Blue Shell -

Thank you for coming by. You have a beautiful blog.

Sometimes I miss the city lights. But nothing really beats the moon and stars shining through the trees at night.

610 Doctor...that's us. LOL

Uh oh, not a Neil Diamond fan. I guess I do like some of his songs but wouldn't scream at his concert. Now put me on the front row of a Waylon, Willie, Cash, Kristoferson concert and I would be happy. Most of my singing idols are gone now,

I'd enjoy hearing him sing about Bro Love's Traveling Salvation Show... :)

But, not in Florida? How weird!

I saw Willie Nelson in concert twice - the best one was with Emmylou Harris and Asleep at the Wheel. A great concert.

Sage -

That makes sense that you would like that one. :)

I know!

Dr is Drive, right? How odd the gps is messed up on that!
Guys just don't get Neil how the babes do I guess! My mom adored his music. It's emotional stuff, I think.
