Score!, smells like summer and car care

- More peaches - this time some from Georgia!  Friend Janice arrives for our walk with a bag of peaches for me from a box someone gave her husband.  She was off to make peach bread after the walk.  Me - I just like to eat them over the sink or with vanilla yogurt and granola crisp cereal for breakfast.

- The smell of peaches when I walk into my kitchen.

- The oil change guy smiles as I list what I don't want done to my car, "just the oil change, please."  OK, then he would have my car back to me in 10 minutes.  And he does.

Lots going on in that photo above, impulsively snapped yesterday morning.  An iron trivet that was always hanging in my mom's kitchen, my dad's hand-carved bread bowl and rolling pin (note to self - learn to bake bread), a tile I admired at a shop in Monterey, California and my sister sent to me for Christmas that year.  Same sister, mom and dad, with mom holding me as an infant in a framed photo and a block of knives mom and dad gave me for Christmas one year that never fails to remind me of the horror movie, "He Knows you're Alone" every time I look at it.  If you've ever seen that movie (I did - reluctantly with some friends), you'll know what I'm talking about.  :)

Yay!!! It's been ages since I was was FIRST at Lynn's ever-more-popular-and-rightly-so blog.

Note to self: Eat as much of Lynn's bread as I can after she makes it. Lather on tons of butter and jam while said bread is still warm. And make a small lobster casserole in Lynn's kitchen that will be set upon said trivet, then enjoyed with crisp Sauvignon Blanc, garlic bread and ceasar salad.

I passed a road side vendor yesterday hawking Porter Peaches and I almost stopped but couldn't bear to leave my vehicle in this heat.

You are so right about the oil change guy. It's best to start right out making it clear that all you want is an oil change and they don't need to keep walking back to the waiting area to assure you that you need about ten other thing,

I found everything in the picture except the "tire" so I even looked for another photo you might have posted that wasn't loading then I went back and read carefully "a TILE I admired" not a TIRE!!!

Everything that Jannie said except being first. Love the smell of peaches in the kitchen. Didn't you just love Monterey, CA.

I will have to try that tip the next time I get an oil change. I hate the "you should really do these 10,000 things because your car will die otherwise" line.

Jannie -

Yay - you're first!

OK - I'm drooling here over your food descriptions - yum. Especially the lobster casserole.

xoxo

Granny Annie -

I have found that the Wal-mart oil change center doesn't do that, but you have to tell them first. I won't go back to some of the other places because I told them not to do that pulling stuff off my car and bringing it in to show me. I just want the oil change - I have a regular mechanic for the other things, which can be handled in tune-ups.

lol at tire! :)

I absolutely loved Monterey and Carmel. My BIL was stationed at Fort Ord and I stayed with them for two weeks. Love the 17 mile drive - all that.

Riot Kitty -

You don't need an air filter every time either - a common tactic at some of those places is to show you an air filter that was especially dirty, but wasn't yours. My dad told me that.

Isn't it funny Lynn - you look at a pictures and I saw peaches and could smell them and they were from Georgia - but all the memories in the items there - YOU knew about and appreciated. Thanks for sharing.

Funny, at first I just concentrated on those yummy peaches, but there's lots to admire in this photo.

I have not seen that horror movie, but it sounds good.

The peaches look yummy and I would LOVE to learn to make peach bread. I've made cheese bread (which is so delicious), beer bread and monkey bread...but that's it so far.

Happy Wednesday, amiga!

I don't watch scary movies. I'm chicken!

Pictures like the this one are lots of fun. It's nice of you to tell a bit of history of each item. I did wonder, however, what's the fruit? hiding amongst the peaches?

I'm not fond of scary horror movies. I like suspense, but not anything like the Freddy movies or the one about the babysitter where the person's in the house. Oops, hope is about see that movie. At least I didn't the title:~)

There was summery tone to this post consuming it, just I hope you did with the peaches!

There were peaches from SC at our farmer's market last weekend.

Sandie -

Thank you - it was a realization after I looked at the photo - how many items were from loved ones.

There's also a varnish stain on the countertop that just looks like a stain. The man who refinished my cabinets left that. :) I need to get that off there.

Scarlet -

A very young Tom Hanks was in that movie. Other than that - not sure I'd recommend it unless you're specifically looking for a squeal-fest with girlfriends. That's what we did.

That's a lot of good bread! I can't wait to ask her how the peach bread turned out.

Me, too, FB!

Sara -

It's fake pears made from pecan hulls! They reside in that bowl on my countertop when there is no fresh fruit. :)

I quite agree - I don't much like them either, but there's a campy factor to some of them, too, which a lot of people like.

Sage -

I hope you got some of those peaches!

Never mind the oil change. Let's talk about those peaches.

:-)

A sure and fabulous sign of being solidly in the middle of summer...

Oh my goodness; those peaches look amazing!

One of my favourite treats of the summer is simply walking past a display of fruit warming up in the sun outside a green-grocer's. The smell is heavenly.

I was here early weds, but the post wasn't up yet, n then I've been falling asleep at the computer all week- still needing to catch-up from last week's trip.
At the market here peaches are going for $1.79 per pound! I bought a little, odd looking "donut peach" for .67 cents- You are so lucky to get those freebies! Peaches in yogurt are a fave of mine too.
Love all the family memories you captured around the peaches n bread bowl.
