Who is it, a gaggle of them and healthy lunch

- Sitting in traffic on Peachtree Street in midtown Atlanta and noticing this rather old fashioned sculpture of a man on a pedestal in front of yet another glass office building.  I just spent 15 minutes searching on the internet to see who that might be, with no luck.  I'm on a mission now to find out what famous Atlantan this might be.*

- Could they have lost their way any more?  Geese strolling down the parking lot in a suburban strip mall.

- A vegetable hating coworker (she might eat iceberg lettuce sometimes) comes back to my desk at lunchtime and stops short:  "What are you eating???"  "Brussels Sprouts."  The sound of disgust she makes as she runs away is pure comedy.  I call out, "I'm the healthiest girl in the world!"  More disgust.  :)

* Found it! 11:00am. The sculpture is of Samuel Spencer, known as the father of the Southern Railway system.  He was killed in a train accident in 1906.  After his untimely death, 30,000 Southern Railway employees contributed to pay for a bronze statue of him by sculptor Daniel Chester French, which was dedicated in 1910 and stood for many years at Atlanta's Terminal Station. The statue is currently located in front of the Norfolk Southern Corporation building at 1200 Peachtree Street in midtown Atlanta.  This is of particular interest to me since my grandfather was an engineer for Southern Railroad.

The weekend is finally here!!!  Enormous happiness here.  Hope you have a great one!

You will be successful in your search I am sure. Let us know when you discover who the guy is.

You know those geese just forgot where they parked their car:)

Why do unhealthy eaters feel the need to bring healthy eaters down to their same level? However as much as I love brussel sprouts (and I truly do) I would choose chocolate cake first.

I <3 a roasted brussel sprout. :)

Enormous happiness sounds good!

I LOVE brussel sprouts.

Was that your first time seeing that gaggle? Amazing!

The lost geese are funny! I always spy them, too, in somewhat odd places. It finally cooled off here but rainy with fog. No camera, though.:-(

My dh (dear husband) makes a wicked brussel sprout; one of his most favorite foods!

I may go back over there today and look. That area is annoying in that there is no place to park that's for free.

lol! I just had a mental image of geese driving a car.

It's a joke around here with her - she only eats bread, meat and sweets and is a tiny little thing. :)

Me, too - I bought the ones I was eating at the natural food grocery food bar. I think I might roast some myself this weekend.

Jannie -

It hasn't been the best week, so I'm looking forward to the end of this day and getting on with the weekend.

Me, too. And yes, first time. :)

As far as I know there's no water around there, so it's curious that they lit there.

Hmmm - I'd love to have your husband's recipe for the roasted sprouts.

Well I read the message above and ...

Anyhow - I wish I was the healthiest person around.

Those geese are way out of their element.

And those people must have really thought he was a great boss - to give so much money for a monument.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

I deleted that wacko's comment. :)

I hope you have a great weekend!

That wacko is hitting all of us today - he left me something particularly nasty - hence comment moderation.

That's awesome research, good job!

I haven't had brussel sprouts in years...but I remember reading a Franklin the Turle story to the kids where Franklin left brussel sprouts in an old blanket and it didn't smell very good (to say the least). I need to get some brussel sprouts in the house...so we can be healthy, like YOU!!

That's great how you were able to find out about the sculpture...and the geese are so funny. We actually have ducks and chickens roaming the streets of Miami...but I think the chickens have something to do with santeria, I'm afraid. :-/

Good job finding out the statue- Sad that Spencer founded the rail system there but was killed by it- Ironic that it ties in with your own Grand Dad!
Geese are never lost! They fly thousands of miles from the Artic to all the other continents yearly. Someone must've built the parking lot over an old stop-over place the leader knew. You can bet they are heading the right direction... n the Non-healthy eater Co-worker is definately going the wrong way!
Have a fun week-end!

I actually thought the part of being an American woman with 10 cats was kind of funny. :) He's certainly bitter.

Yes - I figured out that was the 1200 block of Peachtree Street and was able to figure it out from there my googling monuments in that area. Mr. Spencer finally came up.

Mama Zen -

Me, too. Yum.

Scarlet -

That's funny about Franklin and the brussels sprouts. :)

Oh my - I hope no one thought of that for these guys.

Snaggle -

That's interesting about the shopping center perhaps being built over a former pond or something. That could be. There is a gas station several yards away that actually has a mausoleum in the back of it.

Hey Lynn! We are soon leaving on vacation. My poor camera needs repair and will have to wait for repair until after we make this trip($$)! I have a nasty camera I am using so no easy, great photos for the blog. Oh well! Going to see some of this great country, though. Going trough Virginia (a piece,) Tenn., Kentucky and Illinois into Wisconsin!

For some strange reason, Brussel Sprouts is one of the few veggies I do not like. Roasting sounds like it's worth a try though....
Those Geese...so sweet!
Amazing about that Statue. I think it is pretty extrordinary that ALL the workers contributed to it's existance!
I hope your weekend is lovely and filled with fun and relaxing things, my dear...!

Glad you found out who it was!

Ha ha I've never seen lost geese before, how weird. Well done for capturing them, well on camera not for real. I'm not sure what you'd do with a gaggle of geese. :D

My goodness - that's quite a trip! And it sounds lovely.

Hey - if you have an iPhone you could just take pictures using that. 90% of the photos on my blog were taken with my phone. Just a thought if you will be getting a new cellphone soon.

OldLady of the Hills -

I thought that was wonderful, too - it shows what a beloved man he was.

Joe -

Me either, but hopefully they made their way to wherever they were on the way to.
