Christmas part II, fav ornament and horse in striped pajamas

- I had a ridiculous amount of fun mixing my ornaments and treasured family ornaments into this new tree, which arrived right on schedule.  The stuffed "Richie" bear was free with a purchase at the now defunct Rich's department store.  (How I miss you so.)  Until I can get some gifts wrapped, he looks cute sitting there.

- And I cracked myself up just now, trying to get a good shot of my favorite little ornament:  a baby angel sitting in half a walnut shell.  This was the best of the six shots.  I laughed because I need to leave for work in an hour and am just now taking photos for my blog.  I suffer for my art.  :)

- Three-month-old great nephew Monroe's favorite toy, Bo the Zebra.  My sister is part of the village taking care of Monroe during the day until official daycare starts in January.  She emailed yesterday: "This is Monroe's favorite thing to stare at, his zebra.  I'm racking my brain trying to remember the words to the song about the zebra looking like a horse in striped pajamas!"  Aunt Lynn to the rescue!  It's indeed call Horse in Striped Pajamas.  We used to hear it on Captain Kangaroo when we were kids.

look there daddy, do you see?
there's a horse in striped pajamas
no, that's not what it is at all
that's an animal people call a zebra
i see, but it still looks like a
horse in striped pajamas to me!

It goes on to honor penguins, seals, pandas and leopards.  There is a link to the Captain and Mr. Green Jeans on a visit to the zoo, singing the song on the record, above.  I sang it all day yesterday.  :)

I have worked for the weekend.  It's here!  I hope you all have a wonderful one!

Update - it's difficult to go about daily activities after the tragedy in Connecticut on Friday.  So sad...

Ahhh...the joys of the original Captain Kangaroo...loved watching that show when I was but a lad (yes, I am dating myself big time).

Amazing what can hold a child's interest these days.

I love Teddy bears. He is perfect to wait under your tree for the presents to arrive.

My favorite Christmas ornament is a small plastic Santa that was mine as a child and the one I always was allowed to hang on the tree.

Monroe is going to have a wonderful First Christmas. Wish I hadn't clicked the link because now I'm singing the zebra song too.

Oh my! Captain Kangaroo! Reminds me of staying home from school sick, sipping tea and toast on the sofa while I watched his show. I think the only way I got to watch it was if I was home sick from school because it was on too late otherwise.
I don't recall ever watching TV on a weekday morning in the summer.

I love Monroe's zebra! It's adorable, and so is he, for loving it so.

Love the Christmas tree, with the teddy bear sitting there. You made me laugh, many a time I've been due out of the house but ended up being late because I'm trying to take a decent photo of something for my blog.

G -

I'm dating myself, too. :) Loved the Captain.

The Elephant's Child -

I'm so glad. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, too!

Granny Annie -

Me, too. I usually sit him in my grandmother's little rocking chair at Christmastime, but this seemed like a good spot.

That's neat - I have a plastic red Santa boot that is my oldest ornament from childhood.

A good song to sing all day, I say! :)

Leonora -

I wonder if anyone but me remembers the Banana Man.

FB -

I got a text message this morning with Monroe having "tummy time" and he is looking favorably at Christmas presents. :)

Hilary -

Thank you - that came three in a box - there is always a mouse wearing a nightcap sleeping in a matchbox and a little soldier with a thimble as a hat. I wish I had more like that.

Cheers to you!

Joanne -

Thank you. :)

Joe -

Thanks! All too often I don't have a plan for my blog, and this was one of those days.

Your tree looks good! We had a Rich's Dept store in Plymouth years ago I Xmas shopped there. Tough to get those itty bitty things in focus on my cam too. Thanks for the effort made to cut it close for work! That's totally something I'd do... sidetrack city! Thanks for reminding me of one of my fave parts of Cptn Kangaroo! I'd forgotten that tune! Bo is adorable I think.
Have a festive week-end!

Riot Kitty -

I have another little teddy bear inside my bedroom closet to smile at when I go in there.

Snaggle -

I had forgotten that tune, too - I sang it all day on Thursday.

Sparkling Red -

I think so, too. :)

Yes, Lynn (to you last comment.)

I am so glad to have my family around me this Christmas/New Year season (for my family.) Last night, my 16 y/o daughter had a Christmas party/sleepover and they were singing (at night) around a campfire in the backyard and giggling late late throughout the night-I took great comfort in hearing the sounds of the innocence and the joy of youth; that my 'babies' were sound.

Re your comment about Connecticut. It is overwhelmingly sad and truly unfathomable. I cannot imagine the pain everyone in Newton is feeling---especially all those who lost loved ones---it is sickening.
