Part of the family, finishing strong and a great start

- An image of my Dragon Wing Begonia before it completely takes over the front door area.  I love this plant, that needs no coddling, blooms with no coaxing, and grows with happy abandon.  And I love the shadows it casts on the front door.

- The guards at the building in which I do volunteer work.  They are always so friendly and smiling, a welcome sight to a weary late afternoon visitor.  My tiredness is evident (it had been A DAY at my paying job.)  "Finish the day strong!" one of them says, as he buzzes me in.  And that is the encouragement I needed.

- An early morning cleaning of my kitchen, making it shine and sparkle for the weekend ahead.  And the Dragon Wing Begonia got the vegetable water out of the steamer from last night.

I'm looking forward to a weekend full of good things, and I hope you are, too.  Have a great one, my friends!

That plant is a beauty, Lynn and sounds like it's perfectly spoiled with little treats. :)

Yes, the finish is the hardest part. I like that saying.

Hope your weekend is a gorgeous one.

Your Begonia is so very pretty....! And how wonderful that you give it the water from the Veggies...Maybe that's why it is doing so well---you feed it with such love...!

No doubt your healthy begonia thanked you for the vegetable water. That stock is the reason it's looking so healthy. Great idea.

Enjoy your weekend.

I know I get a boost when people say encouraging things to me like "finish your day strong." It's such a simple thing to do, but so nice. I want to remember this and do this for people more often. Thanks for being a volunteer. God bless you.

Yay for a beautiful begonia, volunteering and for the guard with the perfect mouth.
Have a great weekend...

I love it when someone takes a job that could be considered boring and turns it into an opportunity to add happiness to the world.

I sympathize, having had DAYS like that! Have a wonderful weekend.

I need a plant like that. I've been known to kill cacti.

I need someone at work to give me a pep talk like that every day!

Talon -

That must be the most hardy plant ever. It gets leggy by the end of the season, and I just let it go and buy three more new ones for that pot in the spring.

Hilary -

It's cute how they flirt with all the women - no matter your age. And yes, it did make my day better.

That plant came into my radar just a few years ago - it must be a newish hybrid.

I'd come to the UK anytime to clean your kitchen! :)

Cheers to you!

Sandie -

Yes - the leaves almost look waxy, for sure.

Naomi -

I always like to recycle that vegetable steamer water, and the begonia (which is under the eaves and gets no rainfall) is usually the lucky recipient. :)

Lee -

It's also really hardy, but maybe.

happygirl -

I like to think of you doing that - I'm going to remember to do it, too.

Elephant's Child -

The guard with the perfect mouth - I like that. :)

Good observation - I like that, too. They always have a lively word for me.

Riot Kitty -

Me, too. I stick with the non-finicky variety of plants. :)

Joanne -

I wish that for you, my friend.

It's amazing how just one sentence from someone can change our whole mood can't it? I have to say I find Americans do this so much more than British people who mostly avoid eye contact.

Joe -

I wonder why that is?
