- Definitely not lady food here. Saturday night dinner with friends, where the featured dish was Paella. The skillet in the foreground was non-seafood. That's my hand in background on the serving spoon, ready to dig into the traditional seafood, chicken, sausage paella (photo by friend Bonnie). This is a dinner group that I had dropped out of and didn't realize how much I had missed it until re-entry.
- This morning - 6.45am. Collecting my purse and making sure I have everything before heading out for the journey to work. A robin "redbreast", as my mother used to called them, is hopping about on my back porch pecking at seeds that have spilled off the feeder. He catches sight of me in the kitchen and stands with his head cocked watching. I quietly turn off the lights and slip out the door.

Your description of the table flower arrangements made me think of my longing, too. I had company over this weekend (a gaggle of college students for a dinner) and I so wanted some fresh flowers (that I could pick) for the table; but alas, there are none yet!!!!!!!
saturday dinner with friends sounds wonderful! love paella! what I love most about this dish is that a big steaming pan of food is served straight to the table and people just dig in..yum!
have a great week ahead~
big hugs!
Salads and little sandwiches do sound very healthy I have to say. :D
But I would have been digging into the non-seafood dish for sure!
It all sounds so enticing... Thank you.
Lovely Arrangement.....And those little sandwiches sound delightful.
Not a Piella Person---so, I would go for the NON-SeaFood one....You have some lovely outings, my dear....And How nice to have a little "face-time" with that sweet Birdie....
I love the look of the "Definitely not lady food"....now, I'm hungry!
I do love sandwiches, too...especially those made by others. Egg and lettuce...yum!!
Someone told me it was possible to make a vegan paella. I laughed.
Nice table ambiance effort shown there- Like the pitcher-vase too.
A Dinner Group sounds like a great idea I've never heard of before! Too bad my schedule is way off regular dinner time! (I just ate dinner). I've seem robins here too- tho it isin't really warm yet- Perhaps they are from Canada?! We'll take all the signs of Spring we can get tho- Doing Polar Vortex here again!
Paella is something I heard of on an episode of Seinfeld. George's mother was making it and every time she said "Paella" it got on my nerves. I didn't like the sound of it and had no idea what it was. Now that I see your pictures, I still don't know what it is. However, it does look better than it sounds and it does look more hearty than "lady food".

They're coming your way before you know it, I'll bet. That sounds like fun company. :)
Betty -
I love that, too - especially the communal table.
Hugs to you!
Joe -
I love seafood, but it's not for everyone.
Elephant's Child -
It was enticing. A great word, that.
Naomi -
I do have nice outings sometimes. And I love that little birdie.
Lee -
I love egg salad, too. I had some yesterday in a sandwich.
Riot Kitty -
I know - that's kind of a "why bother" thing. :) I agree.
Snaggle -
These seem to be the same birds who are around all the time, or maybe they summer in Canada. Sounds like a good idea to me - although Talon tells me they have some 100 degree weather sometimes in the summer in Canada.
Granny Annie -
It's a saffron rice dish baked with seafood (he used clams, mussels, shrimp and lobster.) I think there are some spices in there. The non-seafood one was baked in the oven in that skillet. The other was made in that huge paella pan and was cooked in the Big Green Egg grill with the lid on. It had a lovely smokey taste. The rice sort of crackles when it's finishing - that's how he knew it was ready. It makes a lovely crust at the bottom of the dish. So good.
The closing writing about the robin made me say, AWWWWWW...I can just see him with his head cocked and you slipping out the door.
Hi Lynn - thank goodness supper isn't too far away! Those two dishes look quite delicious .. while the enjoyment of sharing supper with friends is a great idea ..
The flower arrangements are just beautiful ..
Cheers Hilary
