Keeping on, if you can't beat 'em... and welcome to the world

 - Stopping by Doug's organic garden for tomatoes after walking on Saturday.  I liked the nice display of pumpkins and gourds.  The pot of cherry tomatoes in the foreground is like my potted plants at home - beginning to show signs of throwing in the towel for the summer.  A little straggly, but still producing.  (In the case of my home geraniums and such - they are still producing blooms, but straggly.)

 - I always enjoy the group emails Doug sends out about what is available.  The one that came yesterday ended with this:  "The competition is mean out there. First the rabbits eating 280 out of 500 sweet potatoes plants, and now the field rats (I think) are digging out the sweet potatoes and eating half of it, and move on to the next one. I just have to grow enough for everyone."  So instead of being impatient, he just compensates by providing enough for the four-legged creatures, too.  What a nice man.

- There's a new baby in our family.  Born to niece Abby - Sawyer, weighing in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces.  That's a big name to live up to, but so far he is quite laid back and just wants to sleep.  A man after my own heart.

Hi Lynn - I see what you mean for a visit ... grow sufficient, the season will slowly wear down, but life is all around us ... baby son - how lovely for the family and for you as a great aunt I guess ...

Cheers Hilary

A big welcome to Sawyer. And I hope he lives up to his name (in the fullness of time).

Our neighbors garden has suffered mightily. Their health plus the extreme heat and varmints have brought most of the bounty to an end. However it kept us all very well for quite a while. Plus I got two nice watermelons yesterday.

Yes, congrats on being an aunt again!!

Lovely photo, pretty colors. Yes, he sounds like an extremely nice man. I would not have quite his patience with the critters.

Congratulations to your niece on the birth of her son. He's a big boy and I imagine he is a bit tired. At least his mama gets some rest now:~)

I like the emails you get from Doug and do appreciate what you said about growing enough to share with the critters...not many gardeners are so nice.

My flowers are also looking slightly weary, but that's August for you!
