Moby St. Nick, wren visitors and satsumas

- My sister and I took a golf cart tour of their farm property in northern Florida on an 85 degree (f) Christmas Day.  Their dog, Moby, who is really getting up there in age, loves to go along on these rides.  My brother-in-law takes him at least twice a day.  He was born on Christmas Day and his full name is Moby St. Nick!

 - Carolina Wrens at my feeder on New Year's Day.  A couple of weeks ago, on a night it was dipping into the 20s in Atlanta, I was bringing the plants in and one of my wren visitors flew inside the condo and retreated to the back bedroom.  After some wringing of hands, the solution:  I opened the front door, closed all of the other doors (except where the bird was), turned off all the lights and it made a break for the front door.  I wish I had a video of it sailing up the hallway.

- Satsumas at Whole Foods Market.  I love how the lighting inside makes it look like an outdoor farmers' market.  I texted this photo to my sister in Florida - she had a satsuma tree in her yard in the first home they lived in.  We don't see these for sale that often around here.  Beautiful (and delicious.)

Hi Lynn - wonderful name "Moby St Nick" and what a fun way to get around on a boiling day - Christmas one at that. Your little Wren story is lovely ... I love satsumas - in South Africa they were called 'naartjies' ...and I agree = delicious .. cheers Hilary

Moby St Nick is a WONDERFUL name.
Love that your wren found freedom again with your assistance.

His Lordship, Moby St. Nick has his eye on something very interesting there...or, at least, he believes he has!

I've never had a satsuma either...they look very similar to a mandarin...a thick-skinned mandarin.

Our dog is getting old too. It was a weird Christmas and New Years being so warm, but it was below freezing this morning here in Savannah.

Satsuma?? That is a new one for me. I have never heard of it! It does look like the Orange Family......
Moby St. Nick---Darling name for a doggie.....! And how smart you are to have found the way for your Wren to return to the outdoors.
The weather is crazy everywhere!!! We finally got a GOOD rain today.....Hoping for more in these next few days. We really really need it!

Slim won't ride in the golf cart. It goes too slow. She runs ahead because even at 9 years old she loves to run. Love the name Moby St. Nick.

You are so smart to know how to get the bird out.

What the heck is a Satsuma??

I don't think I've ever had satsumas. Are they like oranges?

That's a beautiful site...the wrens at the bird feeder. I need to get me one of those when we move. I, too, love the dog's name. He must be a real character with that name.

Chasing birds is tough! I'm always saving birds at work- Glad it went well- The cats here would tear up the place if it happened here.

Happy New Year!

I wouldn't be too keen to have a bird inside the house. You did well to get him out.

The lighting in that store does like natural sunlight I agree. Satsumas are pretty common here in the UK all year round, but the tend to be smaller than the ones you've photographed.

Brilliant solution to your bird problem! I will keep that in mind in case I am ever faced with the same problem.

One time a raccoon got into my sister's apartment through a loose window screen. She scared it out by playing her trumpet!
