New treat, the guards and low key

- A woman who works at my volunteer organization has fresh figs to share and invites me to have one. Oddly - I don't think I have ever tried a fresh fig before. It is sweet and delectable. She tells me that she likes to serve them as appetizers halved, with a bit of goat cheese on top.

- A media personality is filming a program called "Swift Justice" at Georgia Public Broadcasting. I ask the guards, as I am signing out, if they ever see her and they say that I just missed her. They are so accustomed to my smiling commentary on everything that they laugh out loud when I describe why I do not admire this woman. But I am pleased that the show brings revenue to GPB.

- A couple of weeks ago I was signing out at GPB and looked up to see a man I do admire waiting to sign out - Ambassador Andrew Young. I did a double take and he smiled politely. What a nice man and so nicely low key.

Mhmmm, when you break your usual pattern with people, they laugh, don't they? Sometimes I like to have some fun with that. ;-)

I want some figs. Recently I learned they are among the highest fiber fruits but I cannot find any.

Shay -

They were so cracking up. Congrats on being first! Lately it's been Ellis.

G-man -

I like figs, too, now. :)

Granny Annie -

I wonder if farmers markets carry them? These came from someone's tree.

Fresh figs! Drooo-oool... and then I kinda zoned out for the rest of your post, Lynn. Sorry. :P

I've never had fresh fig - only dried ones. The fresh ones look very inviting!

Funny how people expect us to always act a certain way - so much so that they don't really pay full attention.

An Ambassador I see
Where books to blind I read
He’s as polite as can be
And always staying low key
The woman who thinks she’s it
I’d like to beat with a stick
She just left right before me
So her I didn’t have to see
(Talon adds)
The figs were cut carefully in half
Topped with cheese from kid, not calf

My grandfather used to have a fig tree, and I highly recommend that method of getting them, Granny Annie. :) However, all good things must come to an end, and that generous old tree is no longer with us.

It's good to break out of our patterns sometimes, Lynn. I am glad that your encounter with Mr. Young was peaceful and pleasant. :)

who was this woman you saw? Is "swift justice" a movie or TV program, I'm so out of the loop, but I know who Andrew Young is! And thinking of figs makes me hungry. I wonder if I have any fig newtons in the pantry?

Tony -

That's OK! :)

Talon -

And I've never had a dried fig. Hmmm.

You are right about that. Those guys were already a little disconcerted because they were discussing a woman's shape as she was walking up the hallway. They knew I heard them. :)

Ellis -

I love these lines: "The figs were cut carefully in half
Topped with cheese from kid, not calf."

Yeah - I don't like Nancy Grace, but probably wouldn't beat her with a stick. :)

Meredith -

My grandparents had fig trees, too. My grandma used to make preserves and I didn't like them back then, but I'm certain I would now.

So odd to see someone like Andrew Young wearing casual clothes. He did have woman ferrying him around GPB - she walked him to his car and he drove away.

Sage -

I love fig newtons.

Swift Justice premieres in the fall, I think. It is Nancy Grace - you know, annoying woman with loud overly pronounced southern accent. :)

I don't think I've eaten a fresh fig. I've never heard of "Swift Justice" but then I don't watch tv!

Lynn -- Talon added the lines you loved.

They’re not mine. I can't take credit.

Paige -

Thanks for coming by! I am now your humble follower. :)

Joe -

It's coming up in the fall, I think. You might catch it in AZ, but it is probably not your cup of tea.

Ellis -

Oh my - I didn't read that carefully enough! Well those are certainly great lines! Thank you, Talon, for adding them and making that a team effort. Thanks again for my daily poem, Ellis.

I've never had a fresh fig. I'll have to try one.

And, I can't stand Nancy Grace.

Wow, those figs look good- Much better than the dried ones i snack on in the winter...
Laughter can be a nervous reaction some have too- She must've been unethical to get on your bad side!
Must be tough waiting in the Sign in/Out line- Bet you have an inviting smile to get noticed!

For a second I saw "Andrew Young" and thought of the ex-John Edwards staffer...LOL! Nice pic. It almost looks like a still life painting.

Mama Zen -

I knew I liked you. Me either! :)

Snaggle -

There's usually no wait - I'm leaving around 6:30pm or so. The sign in and out is just for visitors, too.

Riot Kitty -

You crack me up! :)

I have never had a fresh fig. But I often do give flying figs for ideas I believe in, like love, peace and theories of advanced mathematics.

LOVE fig newtons!

Xoxo

Jannie -

I am math challenged myself, but do not let that interfere with my admiration for people who do theories of advanced mathematics. :)

Funny enough, the book I just Finished Ghostwalk by Rebecca Stott features Isaac Newtons foibles in the mid 1600s in Cambridge England...

Lynn said...

Snaggle -

That sounds like a neat book - I'll have to check it out.

hee hee, well, either I really really need to go to bed, or I'm totally missing something.

Anyway, figs are great. I saw them at costco today. Also, I happened to crack open a jar of figs a friend canned lase year. I baked them in puff pastry with some cheese. It was delish!
