Old courthouse, familiar scent and unhurried

- The old Milledgeville courthouse, c. 1885, now empty, taken from the steps of my mom's bank. A beautiful building and I am so glad that they are keeping it, even though it has been replaced.

- A quick trip to my home town for a bit of family business. As I get out of the car, I breathe in the fresh air mixed with cooking smells from the nearby cafe. A familiar scent that reminds me why I love my home town.

- Stopping by The Red Door antique shop to say hello to friend Susan. Her dog Raisin meets me at the door with a stuffed toy in her mouth. Susan is giving a silver teapot a quick polish before sending it off with a customer. I sit for a few minutes before getting on the road again. It was good to get these few minutes of unhurried small town life.

It's hard saying good-bye to familiar, n grand architecture- Luckily being Historical helps. Smells are important elements to fond memories. Ah, the dog at the antique store. A good place to hang out without a doubt!
You'll ahve to make excuses to go back to Midgeville for fun sometimes!

That is glorious building. Do you mean it's being replaced by another type of business? I hope so!

Nice to have friends to sit a spell with when you're in your home town. Makes a day lovely. And cute dogs make it even better! :)

As much as I love the hustle and bustle of my city, I appreciate these few quiet moments in the country. You paint a very relaxing picture, Chica!

"...unhurried small town life..." here (Lynn) you said a mouthful. Isn't it nice to tarry in such places Lynn?

Unhurried is a nice way to be, just enjoying the moments as they unfold.

Awesome the gorgeous old building will remain! Lovely architecture is a gift to us all, and lovely old ones all the better.

I smelled hay the other day and it transported me back to Mom & Dad's farm!

You could totally write a book of short stories based on these snippets...I love that someone has a dog named Raisin!

I read this wrong
It’s there but gone
Left but here again

The cooking smells
Did your heart Intel
Back at home again

Two friends you meet
at The Red Door Antique
Then back on the road again

More and more - that's the way I like it.

You're welcome! Raisin's toy was an over sized stuffed "pill" with the words "chill pill" on it. :)

I'll just have to make excuses to go back there, but it is still odd that there is no family there anymore.

Cute dogs rule! I guess it is staying empty - the college is on the same grounds, so I wonder if they might use it for something. The new courthouse is right across the street. Not nearly as nice looking.

Thank you and I'm glad I could do that.

It is. It is...

Interesting how scent can do that, huh?

Really? Hmmm. Raisin is a long haired dachshund and her full name in Raisin' Cane. :)

Thank you for my poem! Love it!

Slow and steady wins the race for sure. :)

I used to love the sound of my father's morning - shower, breakfast and chatting with mom, off to the post office, then the barber shop to hang out for a bit, a little grocery shopping. Slow and steady. Love it.
