- This house caught my attention last time I was in my home town of Milledgeville, Georgia and it turns out that it belongs to a childhood friend, Steve S. I love all the little whimsical touches and you can't see it, but the porch ceiling is painted blue - a custom in the south to keep away wasps nests and / or spirits, aka "haints." :)
- Receiving this message via facebook from a former co-worker, also named Steve, "Hello there my old pal. I hope you're doing well. I was watching Independence Day the other day, and I always think of you when I watch the scene in the tunnel where the dog makes it to safety. I don't know if you remember me loaning you the movie, and you commented on how you were pulling for the dog." I have no memory of this, but am glad to hear that I was pulling for the dog.
- Going by my client's house to see her new baby - just one week old. Her dog Scout, who loves company, runs around like a fool barking, stops long enough to sniff the baby's toes and then ends up by leaning against me, gazing up adoringly. The baby was oblivious. I'm betting that she and Scout will be great friends.

A house painted blue
No spirits or wasps will do
Steve S. is Steve I do believe
When the dog made it you were relieve
A baby doesn’t cry but the dog sniffs a toe
Best friends for life on each other they’ll bestow
I'm awful I suppose, but in a movie, people can be dropping like flies and I'll be going "Come on, doggy, you can make it!" LOL.
That house looks like a doll house!
Ah, what a sweet post!
That house is gorgeously adorable! Makes me want to go paint a ceiling blue, dining room might beva good choice. Does a blue ceiling chase all the calories out of desserts??:)
funny, at first I thought Steve S. read Steve 5! That you had 5 Steves in your life. :)
I remember when we brought Kelly home from the hospital how welcoming and gentle our 20 lb cock-a-poo, Chance was. He maybe had some Lhasa in Jim too. Terrier perhaps.
Off to read your yesterday's post now! Jannie's not been on as much computer as usual these past 2 days. Withdrawals!! ;)
xoxo
Beautiful home~~I want to go in!
Beautiful paint !! Lovely post !!
I love the house too, because you'd never see a house like that here in the UK.
Actually, as Mama Zen mentioned my younger daughter has a dolls house that looks just like that!
A beautiful house. Always pull for the dog! It was great to bail my dog out of the kennel when I returned on Tuesday.
Yeah, I'm with Shay. My wife will always be barracking for the cute dog while everything else in the movie dies a horrible horrible death. Go figure. :P
I always root for the dog (and any children). I figure they're innocent of all the evil that's going on in the movie (unless it's Cujo). :)
That house is so charming!

Love the poem! And I think baby Claire and Scout will grow up together - he's still a big puppy.
Porch ceilings are painted blue in south mainly because spiders and wasps think it is the blue sky and leave the ceiling alone. Isn't that cool that someone thought of that? But I like the notion that it keeps haints away better.
Shay -
I do that, too. :) I don't remember much about the film Independence Day except for the rather disturbing special effect of the White House blowing up.
Mama Zen -
It does look a bit like a doll house!
Jannie -
Well we just do the porch ceilings, I don't know the meaning of inside ceiling painted blue, but the thought of chasing the calories away works for me. :)
Steve S., Steve H., Steve T., Steve C., Steve R. - there, I do know 5 Steves. :)
xo

It is nicely decorated inside. He has a collection of antique timepieces.

Thank you for stopping by!

I think that is a pre-Civil war era house. That little area is full of them, but that one is among the tiniest looking from the front.

Yeah - I don't watch animal movies much because something always happens to them. (My Dog Skip, etc.) I may have to watch this movie again to see what that was about - I don't remember the dog!
I'll bet your dog was glad to see you and your family. :)
Tony -
There are lots of us then!

Excellent point! And I never saw that Cujo movie - oh no, won't be watching that one. :)
Pulling for the dog...I LOVE it!!!
Of course you were pulling for the dog. And of course that dog leaned against you adoringly. :)
It's been a while since I sat on a porch with a blue ceiling. I might hazard mentioning it to my landlord, though: our porch is constantly festooned with spiderwebs which show up only too well against the winter white, and a few days ago we had to suggest to some wasps that they begin their newest nest elsewhere. I never knew that's why folks did that, Lynn. I've seen the blue ceilings all along, and just thought it was a pretty custom. :) You know, it reminds me of the ceiling bewitched to look like the sky at Hogwarts in Harry Potter!
What's better than friends and adoring dogs?
I loved how you described your friend's dog. I could just see the dog leaning, tongue hanging out, looking up with big brown adoring eyes (they might not be brown, but that how I imagined them):~)
Good to know about the blue paint. I should use this in my garage, as the wasps really like the current paint color:~)
I don't remember that part in Independence Day, but I think it's funny (and cute) that you were pulling for the dog. I'll have to look for that scene next time I watch it.
Beautiful home and balcony, wow! You don't see anything like that in Miami. Most roofs are flat and most homes are one story.
Cute baby/dog story, btw. :)
That house looks like it should be in House Beautiful, or Southern Living, if those are still around? It sounds like the second Steve has a crush on you!
Nice victorian, reminds me of homes in MetroWest where I grew up. Never heard of the blue porch ceilings thing.
Looks like it was a Steve day! I remember the golder retreiver barely escaping an incoming fireball jumping to his calling Mom n Boy thru a side door in the traffic tunnel. I watch that film every year.
I'm sure the baby will grow on the pup, once past the pulling tails n slapping fazes...

Eternally. :)

Yeah - I'm just that lovable. No - he loves everyone who visits, I hear. All visitors probably get that same adoration. :)
What I love the most about the blue porch ceilings is that they evoke the sky...
Sara -
You described him perfectly.
And great idea!

I was reading all the comments and Snaggletooth reminds me that the dog had to jump at the last minute to save his own life. I'm going to have to watch that again, too.
Miami is so beautiful, I'll bet. Of course the scenes from Miami Vice put images in my head - I'm sure it has changed quite a bit. But I love the thought of all the vibrant colors.
Riot Kitty -
Those are still around. He probably has a crush on me as one of his straight girlfriends. He is happily gay. :)
Snaggle -
Thank you for the reminder - I am going to have to watch that again soon.
Have a great weekend, my friend.
