Pansies, rhythmic music and knackered

- A late afternoon view of the pansies my neighbor planted last fall. They withstood snow and ice and bounced back every time, cheerfully presenting their colorful faces to passersby. She will be putting out spring flowers soon and I will miss these guys.

- Having an after work walk in an office park near my house where there is a lake in the middle with a path around it. I have loaded up my ipod with all new music that I think would be good to walk to. The best rhythmic song turns out to be "Word Up" by Cameo.

- Learning a new expression from my friend who has an English background: Knackered. She said, "You must be knackered!" in an email. I replied that I probably am, but don't know what that means. Turns out "Knackered is exhausted...English expression. It's about as tired as you can get." I adore that word and will use it all the time now. Thanks friend!

If y'all have any suggestions for good walking songs, I'm an itunes downloading fool right now. Love those 80s songs like "Word Up" and David Bowie's "Let's Dance". That kind of thing. Have a great weekend, my friends!

Love the pansies and knackered sounds so much better than pooped! :)

Phil Collins' "Sussudio" might be a fun walking song. Rock on, chica! The 80s had some great music!

Off the top of my head: I like the beat of the Beatle's "Back in the U.S.S.R;" the tempo gets me moving! Have a great and a good weekend Lynn.

There's also a more slang version of the word knackered too, so if you want sound really cool you should say "I'm really cream crackered".

Cream crackered - knackered. Get it? Rhyming slang at it's best. :D

Cream crackers are a favourite cheese biscuit here in the UK.

"Put on your blue shoes and.... the serious moonlight..." Snippets of that coming back!

I DID know about knackered from my pal Jo in England. And I now know cream crackered from Joey in England.

Pansies are my favorite. So lucky we can have them year-round here too.

Your neighbors pansies
Faces colored bright
To the passersby’s
To their faces they bring light

“Word Up” seem to
Keep your step up
But don’t get knackered
Before sup

You'll laugh, but some of the Bee Gees songs have a wonderful beat that keep you moving along. And I love Boston for that, too. :)

I can't wait to see some pansies here. I always put some in the planters on the deck. I like their Groucho Marx faces staring at me :)

I like Bowie's Modern Love.

I'd never trade-up such pretty pansies! Waiting to see if mine sprout again- No winter flowers here!
The group Boston- "Long Time" then there's always Foreigner tunes- "Jukebox Hero, Urgent" How about Steely Dan "Reeling in the Years"

I'm currently Knackered myself! Thanks for the new vocab-

Happy Week-end to you!

Our family expression for frustrated is "bunged" as rhymes with "plunged" derived from bungee cord stretched tight. Currently I am away from commenting on blogs because I'm all "bunged" about my husbands health and house full of grandkids here for Spring Break. Forgive me this absence and know I will be back.

when I first heard "Knackered" I wondered what the guy meant as I hadn't been drinking... Songs--Classic Rock!

I like that word knackered! Phil Collins is a great suggestion and I did love the 80s music. :)

That's a great suggestion - any Beatles really. My weekend is good so far and I hope yours is, too.

Joe -

I'll try out "cream crackered" too - love that rhyming. :)

Jannie -

We just plant pansies in the fall and winter here - that's when they do best.

Blue Bunny -

I'll check out those Madonna songs - thanks for the suggestion!

Ah - I see now what she meant about the pansies.

I hope it was fun to work knackered and pansies into one poem. Thank you for it - another good one. :)

Talon -

Pansies being so cold loving probably do well up there in the spring - hope it is not cold for long though.

Those are good suggestions - not laughing at all. I love the BeeGees and Boston.

Mama Zen -

I hadn't thought of that one - Modern Love - it's on the list.

RK -

Oh I hope you have some sun by now.

Snaggle -

I have some Steely Dan lps - I'll have to look at the songs and choose a couple to download. Thanks!

Granny Annie -

You must be a cool grandmother that those kids all want to spend spring break there. They are a glorious bunch, too - I saw your post about them.

I hope Ron is doing OK!

Sage -

That's funny. And I like classic rock, too. I'll have to think of some. I downloaded one song from The Zombies. :)

The pansies are gorgeous!

Knackered is a good one. I used to have a Scottish nanny, so I learned all those UK expressions. Haven't actually heard anyone say it in person in many years.

Currently I'm listening to Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough". That sounds like a walking beat to me!

Lovely flowers! I love looking at flowers, but I can't grow any to save my life. I think I need a nice neighbor with green fingers!
Knackered needs to be pronounced with a British accent, it's super funny!

Depeche Mode - that might be a good addition. Thanks!

I'm not a green thumb person myself either - I get by and that's about it. :)
