Healing, Cleansing and Hope

- Part five of Rene Clausen's "Memorial," subtitled "Petitions." Performed by the Pinellas County Center for the Arts Symphonic Chorus and Orchestra; Logan Brown, piano; Derek Edward Weston, conductor.*

- My niece took this photo, on the property of the plantation in which she works in north Florida, of a double rainbow. The Urban Dictionary says that a "double rainbow" is an expression that can be used as "a term expressing something of pure, unrivaled awesome. Used commonly when awesome or spectacular are simply insufficient." I think a double rainbow counts as being pretty awesome.

- This is the flag that was draped over the side of the Pentagon on September 11, 2011, it hangs inside the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

*René Clausen's Kyrie (Lord Have Mercy) is part of a composition entitled Memorial, created to commemorate the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Memorial comprises four subsections - September Morning, The Attack, Prayers, and Petitions - and offers as its primary themes healing, cleansing and hope. It was first performed in February 2003 by The Concordia Choir and The Concordia College Orchestra at the Riverside Church in New York City.

Listen to the Kyrie if you have time this weekend - it is incredibly peaceful music. And I hope you have a lovely and peaceful weekend, my friends!

There are loving and emotional tributes all around us this weekend and I am so very immature because it is too difficult for me to handle. 9/11 is my memory of a time in my life that will "forever live in infamy".

I'll be thinking of you and will also be thankful that is not me. What's with the high temps up there? It's 60 degrees on my back porch this a.m.

Snaggle -

My church's choir sang that last year around 9/11 and I looked it up - so haunting and lovely.

Granny Annie -

I don't think that is immature - it's understandable. Part of my family lived in DC then and one of them had just walked out of the Pentagon when it was hit. My niece looked up from her desk at a building just behind the White House to find a gun toting SWAT team member there to escort her out - she didn't even know what had happened and had to walk home several miles because transit was closed. She was worried about her dad.

So that music seems healing to me - I had saved it to a post that I never posted. Yesterday morning I couldn't think of a photo to use and thought about the looming anniversary and went back a year in blogger posts and found it. I saw the double rainbow post right behind it and used that photo again. What a miracle - a double rainbow. And I love the flags at the Smithsonian - I wish I could have photographed the Star Spangled Banner flag that they have been restoring. It must be finished by now. It would have been another good representation of the strength of our country and its ability to look forward.

I will come back and listen to that sweetness. Have to get ready now to go to Kelly's school. I wonder if it's the same melody I know.

Your niece continues to be a very talented photographer. But how could she not? She was born with the talent. And it's lovely to see.
