Hummingbirds, the royals and work treats

- My sisters thought it curious that I photographed this planter in downtown Thomasville, Georgia last Monday - but I loved it for its sun dappled beauty and graceful appearance.  It was only after I downloaded the photo that I noticed the hummingbirds - our late parents' favorite birds - on the planter.  Mom and dad always had feeders at their house.  During the final home clear out Saturday, two weeks ago, hummingbirds kept buzzing by despite the lack of feeders.  I think they were checking to see if that nice lady and man were back.  So I left the new family a hummingbird feeder and nectar on the kitchen counter with an explanatory note and hope they put it up for them.

- A news report last night on NBC that for a country that started out not wanting to be ruled by royalty, we sure do love British royalty now.  It's true - I got up very early to watch both Princess Diana's wedding and that of her son.  And I loved it when they showed William and Kate doing the "wave" in the stands of an Olympic event.

- My coworker, aka "the cupcake queen", finds a double stacker cupcake cake holder on sale at Macy's and brings it in to show.  I say I'll be more excited about it when it is filled with cupcakes, preferably those chocolate ganache ones she makes.  Maybe today.  Here's hoping...

May your weekend be filled with good things, my friends.  I'll be staying home for this one and am quite excited by the thought.  :)

Your tale of the hummingbirds made me misty eyed. The fog increased when I read of your lovely gesture to the new family.
I hope your weekend at home brings you beauty and joy.

I too misted up at the hummingbird story. So nice you left them a feeder with a note.

Yes, I like FILLED cupcake trays too. :)

Beautiful photo of the planter.

Enjoy your home time.

The hummingbirds will send a scout and hopefully it will be able to report to the rest that the new owners put up the feeder. That was a wonderful gesture on your part.

I am amazed by Queen Elizabeth but she's about my extent of royal watching. I never got very excited about Diana and Charles or Kate and William.

Let's see a picture of the cupcakes if the arrive today. We're staying home too (as usual) and looking for my son and grandson for the weekend. That's a treat.

Haha a cupcake stand without cupcakes is just a tease! I hope you get your chocolate ganache!

Your parents are with you in different ways - how nice. And what is a cupcake stand without cupcakes???

I hope the new man and woman feed the hummers. It sounds like the birdies are missing your folks, too. I loved this post today. Sweet and loving.

Nice planter and we (or at least I) can enjoy royalty as long as they stay across the Atlantic!

That would be a lot of chocolate ganache (yum!) cupcakes to hold.

How neat to get a hummingbird pic without trying! n so nice to look after your parents hummingbird pals. They do have a busy list of daily visits needed to fuel all that flapping. I like the planter design.
Woops I missed the royal wave, but have watched alot of overnight replayed Olympic events.
BBM has one of those holder trees- they never do stay full long!
Enjoy your quiet home time, you've earned the rest!

So sweet of you to think of those beautiful birds and encourage the new family to think of them, too.

I love cupcakes...and two are better than one, right? Hope you get your sweets soon!

Enjoy your weekend, amiga! :)

The Elephant's Child -

I really sat down to post about the beautiful planter and then noticed the hummingbirds and the rest flowed out. The new family is a single mom and her 10-year-old daughter. The real estate lady (who is a friend now) said they walked in and said, "This feels like home." Her mom and dad were with them and the real estate lady said she overheard him say that you can tell what kind of people had lived there. Lots of happiness was in that house and I'm glad someone else can love it now. It was making me sad - sitting empty for two years. And the little girl is beside herself with excitement over all the room.

Jannie -

I hope they put that feeder up - I'll meet the new owner at the closing on Tuesday and plan to tell her more about the house.

Granny Annie -

Thank you - it was an impulse really. I had stopped at the Ingles grocery store outside of town to ask for boxes and went back in to buy bottled water. I spotted the feeder and nectar and got it for them then.

There were no cupcakes - everyone but me is on a diet. :)

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend with your son and grandson. I was a couch potato yesterday.

Thank you - I'll always love them.

Joanne -

And you posted about cupcakes on the same day!

Sandie -

I feel them around me - I think they are.

And it's been three years this weekend they moved to assisted living. (Dad was fine, but mom wasn't and he wouldn't let her go alone. And then he passed away three months later. I still can't believe it.)

Sage -

Awww - I think those younger royals seem so fun!

Riot Kitty -

Agreed!

Fueling the flapping - love that phrase. I never thought of that, but I wonder what it's like to be a hummingbird. Do they ever settle down?

Dad asked me once where I thought they went in the winter, so we looked it up. Costa Rica. Can you imagine how beautiful Costa Rica is in winter with all those beautiful birds?

Scarlet -

I am enjoying it and hope you are enjoying yours, too.

Sparkling Red -

Hey - you can have a cupcake now! Right?

Perhaps the hummingbirds were sent down from above to pay a special visit in order to say both a goodbye to the old and a hello to the new.

Lovely thought and lovely gesture that you made to the new family.

G -

I think you are right.

After weeks of soul sucking humidity - it's 62 degrees on my back porch this morning. I have my laptop out here emailing and blog reading. :)

We did not like to be ruled by the British either in India, yet there is something about the Royalty that is fascinating.

I agree - I like the way William has handled himself with such grace, but love Harry's rakish attitude toward life, too. :)

I think William and Kate are the best thing that have happened to the Royal family for years!

Hi Lynn .. such a lovely thought to leave the bird feeder and nectar for the new owners ... I'm sure many are happy with that idea - up there and down here ...

Royalty and tradition - we're very lucky here ... cheers Hilary
