Birthday party, the cake and on the move

- A party for a beloved one-year-old.  Monroe's mom took pictures of him every monthly anniversary of his birth and strung them up for his party.  An inspired idea.

- As is tradition in our family for a first birthday party, he was allowed to eat this little cake with his fingers.  He delicately picked off pieces and ate them, probably wondering when someone would stop him.

Favorite moment of the weekend:  Sitting down in my grandmother's rocking chair in his bedroom, while his mom gets him ready for church.  He toddles over, picks up a book and hands it to me.  He sits in my lap and lets me read to him for about two minutes and then is down and off again.

What a wonderful idea to display the monthly photos! Did mom come up with that idea herself? Very, very clever.

It is always a blast watching a one year old with that first birthday cake. Rarely do they plunge right in, but once they realize they can it's messy time.

What story did Auntie Lynn read him?

So hard to believe Monroe is already ONE! Happy Birthday little guy. We love watching you grow.

Granny Annie -

She says she got the idea from a daily email she gets called Very Jane. :)

I read him the book he handed me, called "Good night Georgia." It has scenes from different areas in the state of Georgia. Pretty neat.

It is hard to believe. He is a much loved baby.

The photos are a GREAT idea. Really GREAT. I'm going to steal that if I ever have a grandchild. And a personal cake... genius. :)

My goodness. His presents must outweigh him by a considerable margin.
Loved the cake, and the photo idea too.

I hear the cake was good, too. :) It was a fun afternoon.

Awww! So sweet. Babies that age have such short attention spans, but I think that makes them even more adorable. :)

I love everything about this party, especially your description of how Monroe ate his cake : )
One day he'll be a big, strapping young man and he'll have those wonderful photos to look back at.

How cute! I wonder if Monroe and I have the same birthday (Sunday?) My grandmother just sent me some pictures from my fifth birthday, and I have to say they were pretty cute!

In awe of the monthly infant photo idea! They develop so much in so little time! Always treasure the beginning pics of mine too- Sad I rarely print pics anymore.
Didn't he even get covered with a mess of frosting?
I have a feeling alot of reading with Auntie Lynn is in his future!

Oh boy - he sure focused on the car that his maternal grandparents got him. We decided they were going to have keep it in the guest room out of sight so he doesn't want to be pushed around in it all the time. :)

Hilary -

I'm glad he likes books, too.

Munir -

Thank you for the blessing - lovely.

Thank you - I'm glad you liked it. I loved every minute of being there - even the mingling with relatives from the other side (some of which are not so friendly.)

Riot Kitty -

Happy birthday - belatedly. No his birthday was actually the 27th of August.

Birthday hug! (((HUG)))

Snaggle -

I thought that was a great idea, too. I hope it catches on!
