- This was taken last Thursday morning after we had a few inches of snow fall on top of the already accumulated ice. I thought the rosemary bush (behind the butterfly bush) looked especially pretty with the white stuff on it.
- This was taken Sunday morning. Sigh. I'm afraid the rosemary bush is no longer living. (I'm thinking the butterfly bush will be OK, having been cut back for the winter last fall.) For the gardeners out there: should I cut the rosemary back now or wait and see what happens?
- You would have to click to enlarge to spot the cardinals in this photo. Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal have lived around my condo for years. That's him to the right of the bird house, sitting in the tree complaining loudly. She's to the left, but more difficult to spot, due to her less vibrant color. They were very happy to see the rapid melt off that started Thursday afternoon. It was fun for a bit anyway. :)

Maybe I'm just used to spotting them. I saw them before I read that I was supposed to enlarge the picture to see the cardinals. I have always put the rosemary in the ground, so I'm not sure how well your rut ball faired. Cutting it back won't hurt.
Saw the boy but cannot spot the girl. She could be what I believe to be a brown leaf to the left:)
Wish I could help with the plants but my thumb is far from green.

Good eye! Yes - I figured I would just cut it back and if it doesn't come back, I'll just buy another. I love having fresh Rosemary.
Granny Annie -
She does look a little like a brown leaf. :) She's in sort of triangle area a bit to the lower left of the bird house. So funny that they kept sitting here looking my say, as if to say, "Do something, why don't you?" They were probably discussing why they stick with Tucker, Georgia and not Orlando, Florida. :)
Way, not say. Sigh.
I have to idea about your plants....but I hope someone will have the answer.....I found Mr. Cardinal, but cannot see 'The Mrs.' They are such BEAUTIFUL Birds. My very favorite---And we don't have them here---OR, if we do, I've never seen one.
Sorry about the Rosemary bush.
Could see the Cardinals after looking very carefully. thanks for sharing.
I have no idea when to cut and when not to cut! Sorry about that Lynn and let us know what you find out! Pretty snow! I am hoping that we will now thaw out!!!
lg :-)
My temptation would be to cut the rosemary back.
Love your cardinals. Thank you.

It must be that Cardinals like a bit of cold weather. I have a beautiful carved one that I'll share in a post sometime.

Thank you!

I know - I'll bet you do look forward to the thawing.
Elephant's Child -
I think you are right - I'll probably do that. I wish I could get close up birds pics like you do.
I think your rosemary probably will come back fine. hopefully! There's lots of it planted in many beds around here and seems always to come back from the cold. that is in the ground, of course. If not, as you say you can buy some more. And as you probably know, it grows relatively fast.
sweet cardinals. we've had ones for years around our house too. Good luck, they are!
Sorry I've been away, we're right in the middle of gymnastics meet season, which means lots of travel, and lots of work in between.
xoxo
I'd say cut it back, take it inside and see what happens. I thought I had lost the pineapple mint after two weeks of very cold temps, but cut it back and brought it in and now it's growing atgain.
So much snow this year!
I've had alot of bad luck trying to save herbs for the winter even in the cool, not frozen backroom-
If the stem isin't brittle, it may survive a dormant state n sprout again. That's what spring is for... I've brought in the Lavender n Thyme which both are brown now.
Cardinals are winter birds here, n weather the snow gracefully! Pretty to see in it, I think.
I wish I had some rosemary advice! Fingers crossed for a revival!
Perhaps this will help, Lynn....

I can see the little fellow, and I think I can make out his lady friend.
