The garden, searching for the pumpkin and lunch today

- When I stepped out of my car on Saturday morning at Doug's garden, in search of tomatoes and Old 200 Poundy, this quiet scene presented itself.  Lovely and serene (click to enlarge.)  I located the tomatoes for sale in the garden shed nearby, but no one seemed to be around.  Eventually the nice lady who works there came up from the garden to help me.

- She speaks mostly Spanish, but eventually understood that I also wanted to see the pumpkin and lead the way.  There it is, Old 200 Poundy, looking as if it is not quite at that weight yet.  I'll keep up with its progress and report back.

- There are lots of flowers around, too.  I loved these ruffley looking lilies, basking in the morning sun.

- And I got my tomatoes.  There is nothing like a summer tomato.  There have been mostly sandwiches made from them, but I'm also thinking gazpacho.  Yum.

Yes I would say old 200 poundy isn't quite there yet. You are in for some good sandwiches with those tomatoes. Beauties for sure.

Whoa, that's a nice pumpkin. I should teach you Spanish and you help me grow a giant pumpkin in my yard...something like Cinderella's coach. :)

Granny Annie -

I had one yesterday for lunch - so good!

I hope you have a wonderful trip, my friend.

I know enough Spanish to be dangerous. :) ¿Dónde está la calabaza? right? I could have come up with ¿Dónde está la pumpkin? I just looked up the Spanish word for pumpkin and found that it is calabaza. I'll never forget it now.

I agree - the tomatoes in the stores are awful!

Hi Lynn - looks a wonderful place .. and fresh tomatoes - nothing could be better ... a salad with a few basil leaves and perhaps some feta, or buffalo cheese ... and then your bread ...

Don't know if you make bread - but Sia McKye had an interesting recipe for lemon bread, which would make a good addition for a somewhat different lunch or supper .. with your tomatoes and perhaps some lightly poached fish ...

http://siamckye.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/monday-musingswhen-life-hands-you-lemons.html should you wish to see the recipe at the end ..

Cheers and that pumpkin's a-growin' ... Hilary

I would be drawn to that garden as well. I especially like shady places and it looks like the path winds through the trees.
The tomatoes are beauties!

Summer tomatoes are the best! And checking out that crazy pumpkin sounds pretty fun too. :)

I agree those are yummy tomatoes. Makes me long for a good BLT:~) I haven't one in ages.

It will fun to keep track of "Old 200 Poundy" as he or she continues to grow.

I love visiting garden centers even though I'm not a good gardener, but they are so peaceful, especially when they have fountains going, bees buzzing and the wonderful scent of flowers blooming.

Now I want tomatoes. And pumpkin pie.

That pumpkin should be just about right around Halloween time! :)

Lovely home-grown tomatoes, sliced on fresh bread, sprinkled with pepper, salt and curry powder! Yum!

I'm jealous of the huge pumpkin patch! I want one... ooo cool Lilies too. I only had 3 cherry-sized tomatoes ripe this week. Got about 10 larger ones on the way tho, n all the rain will help the size.

Glad you got your tomatoes! I tend to eat the tiny ones you can buy still on the vine. I think that's what they are anyway!
