The library, alternate reading sources and love of books

- Did I mention that I love books?  I always have.  My dream job was to work in a library - I found that written in a little paper I wrote in the 7th grade that my mom had kept.  I did work at the county library in my home town during summers and after school when I was a teenager.  Oh bliss - how I loved that job.  These days, I visit my local library frequently and have my own little library at home of treasured books.

 - I resisted the Kindle for a long time, but have found it quite handy to have on trips and at the doctor's office waiting room, and such.  This one fits nicely in my purse and I got it as a "reward" with bank points.  Currently reading on my Kindle Paperwhite:  The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.  I still love a bound book the most, but this one has its place.

- Isn't this a gorgeous quote by Eudora Welty?  I spotted this on social media.  Lovely.

I too am a bookaholic. And so far have resisted the kindle lure. I almost always have a book with me.

I, too, when I was young, dreamed of working in a library. Before I left school and was looking at different avenues I even made enquiries about getting a job in our local library in Gympie; but when I discovered they only hired juniors and after a certain age you were let go...I think from memory the age was 16 (??)...I gave that idea a wide berth.

I prefer real books too but if the print is too small, I read e-books where I can easily increase the font to the size I need. My Rare One is hooked on audio books because she can multitask while she listens to them.

Hi Lynn - I too prefer books ... and have rather too many - but I've been adding to them via the library ... I think I'd rather have liked to have worked in a library too ...

Wonderful quote by Eudora Welty ... and then finding who she is etc and how 'Eudora' was used ... while The Nightingale book has intrigued me ...

Cheers and thanks for these gems - Hilary

I am always hanging eleven at the library and have been since my age was in single digits. The closet I came to working in a public library was working in a research library, which is a whole different creature all together. I spent a very cool 8 years working there and enjoyed every single minute of it.

I don't have a Kindle, but do have the soon-to-be obsolete Nook. But I do plan on buying one sometime in the near future though.

Beautiful collection and quote at the end. I'm with you, there's nothing like holding a good book but the Kindle is lightweight and has its purpose on the road when you want to travel light and have the choice to read more than one book.

I love books. I have always read books by the stacks. Now I listen to audio books and feel ashamed every time that I do. Reading requires me to sit down and there is no time for that. Right?

I have a nook and a kindle reader on my ipad, but still prefer reading books, but after 3 days on Cumberland Island, in which my book and my journal was becoming waterlogged from the humidity, I wonder about my stubbornness.

I love books, too. I always have. Still doing the hard copy thing, though.

Libraries are one of my favorite places, too! Someone else recommended The Nightingale to me. I'll have to check it out.

I love to read, and I also have a Kindle which I rarely use. It's so satisfying to watch the progress of a bookmark through to the end of a book. I love that.

I see you have some Ian Rankin on your shelves. I've never read him, but my friend just loaned me a couple of his books, so he's on my shelf too now!

Reading is a great pleasure of mine as well and like yourself and so many others, Lynn, I prefer to hold an actual book. However, Indid buy a Kindle Paperwhite as a birthday treat a coup,e of years ago and do enjoy its portability when traveling. I download e-books from the library and don't even have to return them as they will expire automatically if Inforget to remove them! That said, I still always have a couple of library books by my bedside. The Eudora Welty quote was lovely.
What type of books do you enjiy most...finction, nonfiction...both?

Sadly I'm not really an avid book reader, but I do read, and if I can get engrossed in a book I can really enjoy it. Having a kindle really doesn't appeal to me at all, but my older daughter enjoys using hers.
